The Washington Commanders are losing players at a concerning rate. They already lost top receiver Terry McLaurin for the season, and just sent three players to injured reserve. Now, star quarterback Jaylen Daniels may have to make do without two more offensive weapons ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams.
Per The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala, wide receiver Treylon Burks did not practice for the second consecutive day on Thursday due to a foot injury. Meanwhile, Dyami Brown has been added as a limited participant with a calf injury.
Burks has been dealing with a foot issue for a few weeks now. However, he was still able to play against the Philadelphia Eagles and was a big difference maker. He picked up a season-high 81 yards on three catches, including a 53-yard bomb, in the Commanders' 27-10 win.
Through six games, Burks has 12 catches for 233 yards and two touchdowns, already surpassing his totals for all three categories last year in two fewer games. He has really stepped up in McLaurin's absence. Through his last two games, he has caught seven balls for 147 yards. Meanwhile, Dyami Brown has nine catches for 94 yards in seven games this season.
With McLaurin already out, losing Burks would be another blow to the Commanders' receiving corps. That would leave veteran Stefon Diggs and rookie Antonio Williams as Daniels' reliable wide receiving options, along with tight end Chig Okonkwo.
The Commanders have been reportedly looking for wide receiver help at the trade deadline, although they are unlikely to go after Brandon Aiyuk. That need for another receiver could become even more pressing if Burks' foot issues continue and he ends up missing time as well.
