Notre Dame's undefeated season came to an end last time they took the field, as the Irish lost to BYU 28-24. After Notre Dame made a comeback, BYU scored a touchdown with 1:47 left in the game to take the lead. Still, CJ Carr led the Irish back down the field. With four seconds left in the game and Notre Dame on the BYU eight-yard line, Carr threw the ball to Jaden Greathouse in the endzone, but it fell incomplete. The Big 12 later admitted that Notre Dame should have still had one more second for a final play to potentially take the lead.

Now, head coach Marcus Freeman is once again addressing the end of the game against BYU, per Mike Berardino of the South Bend Tribune.

“It was chaos as soon as that game ended. I don't know that the human eye, someone in the press box, could have noticed there was one second left,” Freeman said.

Notre Dame had multiple opportunities to win the game. After taking the lead in the fourth quarter, they intercepted Bear Bachmeier on the next drive. Still, they ran just three plays for three yards and punted after taking 2:22 off the clock. The defense then allowed BYU to march 55 yards on ten plays to take the lead. Regardless, one more play would have given Notre Dame the chance to steal the victory and remain undefeated.

The loss dropped the Irish to 6-1 on the season, but Notre Dame is still one of the top teams in the nation, and if they keep winning, they will be heading to the College Football Playoff. Next up for the Irish is a home game against Navy before they host number one Miami the following week.
