The Buffalo Bills are 5-1. They sit atop the AFC and look every bit like a legitimate Super Bowl contender. However, a strong record can conceal dangerous cracks. Buffalo’s receiving corps is giving general manager Brandon Beane a reason to act before the trade deadline. With DJ Moore dealing with a shoulder injury and Joshua Palmer also battling health concerns, Josh Allen needs another proven option. With that, the Bills should explore a trade for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. His reported availability could give Buffalo an opportunity to strengthen its offense without surrendering its most valuable draft assets.
Promising start, warning sign

The Bills opened the 2026 season with three consecutive victories before suffering a 29-26 divisional loss to New England in Week 4. Moore’s shoulder issue added to their concerns. They responded with a thrilling 37-34 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams, then edged the Las Vegas Raiders, 33-30. Allen threw for 255 yards and two touchdowns against Las Vegas. James Cook supplied 95 rushing yards and a crucial late touchdown. Buffalo enters its Week 7 bye at 5-1. However, the injuries at receiver deserve attention before a favorable record becomes a false sense of security.
Perimeter vulnerability
The Bills have enough firepower to beat quality opponents. That said, they cannot afford to make Allen manufacture every passing-yardage advantage through improvisation. Moore’s shoulder problem has complicated his integration into the offense. Palmer has also dealt with a shoulder injury. That uncertainty puts additional pressure on Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir.
Those weapons can make plays, but the offense would benefit from another receiver who consistently creates space on intermediate routes. Allen needs someone who can uncover quickly, move the chains and punish coverage mistakes. His ability to extend plays is a tremendous advantage, not a sustainable substitute for reliable separation.
That is why the bye week presents an important opportunity. Buffalo has time to assess its injury situation and study potential trade targets. GM Brandon Beane should not make a deal merely for the sake of making one. Still, the need for another dependable route-runner is clear.
Jerry Jeudy
Jeudy offers a plausible solution. He has already demonstrated that he can produce at a high level. He caught 90 passes for 1,229 yards and four touchdowns in 2024, earning a Pro Bowl selection during his first season in Cleveland. His production subsequently dipped to 50 receptions for 602 yards in 2025. However, he has recorded 12 catches for 150 yards without a touchdown through six games this season. He's also coming off arguably his best game yet in the Browns' Week 6 win over the Ravens.
Jeudy’s route-running experience and ability to work across the formation make him an intriguing buy-low candidate. A more established passing-game environment could help him regain the confidence and consistency that made him such a productive target in 2024.
Pairing Jeudy with Moore, Coleman, and Shakir would give Allen another option against man coverage while allowing head coach Joe Brady to move his receivers around. Jeudy could give Allen a trustworthy alternative when the primary read is covered. He would not need to become Buffalo’s leading receiver to make the trade worthwhile.
The right offer
The financial and draft considerations require caution, though. Jeudy carries a reported 2026 salary-cap charge of approximately $10.37 million. He is also under contract beyond this season. Buffalo would need to evaluate the remaining cap impact and Cleveland’s willingness to retain or restructure any portion of the deal.
Article Continues BelowCleveland’s rumored asking price has been in the third- to fourth-round range. A 2027 fourth-round pick with a conditional 2028 sixth-rounder is a reasonable starting proposal. Buffalo could seek a late-round pick swap to balance the deal. However, it should avoid surrendering a premium selection for a receiver whose production has fallen sharply.
Make the call

Buffalo does not need a blockbuster to improve its Super Bowl chances. It needs another receiver who can earn Allen’s trust. Jeudy is not a risk-free answer, especially given his modest 2026 production and contract. Still, the potential reward justifies serious discussions.
The Bills should use their bye week to explore the market and establish a firm price. If Cleveland is willing to negotiate within reason, Beane should pursue Jeudy. At 5-1, Buffalo has the opportunity to strengthen a contender before its weaknesses become postseason liabilities. Waiting for the receiving corps to get healthier may work, but adding another proven option could make the Bills much harder to stop.
