‘Already 1-0 up’ – Luke Littler’s next opponent reveals secret Ally Pally weapon

Luke Littler will start his World Darts Championship second round match on Sunday night one set behind…

Well, only mentally, according to his opponent, as David Davies believes he beats the teen sensation with his walk-on song.

The 40-year-old Welshman, who beat Mario Vandenbogaerde 3-0 in the first round, enters the stage to a legendary Oasis track.

He walks on to the song Cigarettes & Alcohol after selecting it to make sure the crowd would be well up for each of his matches.

Meanwhile, Littler’s walk-on tune has quickly become iconic, as he enters to Greenlight by Pitbull, with fans singing along.

But Davies believes he has the better walk-on and that his secret weapon will help him gain an advantage over the World No.1.

“I spent hours looking at intros to songs that would get the crowd going, and Cigarettes & Alcohol got me fired up,” he said.

“People say Luke Littler’s opponents are already a set down in their own minds when they hear him walking on stage to Greenlight.

“But I think my walk-on song is better than his, so I’m already 1-0 up!”

Davies added: “I’m not thinking too much about who I’m playing.

“I know I’m better than how I played in the first round, but Luke is a different kettle of fish, isn’t he? He’s a different breed.

“He’s blown the sport into a different dimension.”

‘He’s been phenomenal’

Davies went on to speak further about Littler and the 18-year-old’s impact on darts since his incredible rise to the top.

The full-time NHS worker is set for the biggest match of his career, but he’s looking forward to challenging the reigning champion.

“Every game’s going to be tough and I know I’m going to be the underdog in every game I play,” he admitted.

“Just to play on the Ally Pally stage is huge. To get the win in the first round was that little bit of a cherry on top.

“There’s no denying the excitement and thrill of playing Luke now since he blew the sport open, but let’s see what happens.”

“I don’t know about the enormity of the occasion because I’ve not been in this position before, at least not at the World Championship,” Davies continued.

“I’ve beaten him once, at a tournament on the Isle of Man when he was 13, but he’s a better player now.

“He did beat me at the same tournament two years later, so it’s 1-1 and at least I can say my record against Luke is all-square.

“But he has been phenomenal since then.”

Davies and Littler will meet on Sunday evening at Alexandra Palace.

Their second-round match is expected to start at 9pm, with the winner facing either Joe Cullen or Mensur Suljovic.
