Alex Cora sends final farewell to Red Sox fans after controversial firing
Alex Cora has been the subject of much talk in the sports world in recent days, after the Boston Red Sox recently fired him. Cora is sending a final farewell message to Boston fans, after he and several of his coaches were let go.
“Boston, we will miss you. Gracias for making us part of you. (Red Sox Nation), you are the (heart) of that team, keep believing, you really care and that’s what pushes everyone in the Red Sox to give it all day in and day out. With respect and love AC,” the message read on X, formerly Twitter.
USA Today columnist Bob Nightengale shared the message on his X account. The Red Sox fired Cora after a game on Saturday, April 25, against the Baltimore Orioles. The Red Sox crushed the Orioles, but it wasn’t enough for Cora to save his job.
Boston is now led by interim manager Chad Tracy. The club is out to a 12-17 start to the season overall, under both Cora and Tracy.
Cora may not be unemployed for long. Some Major League Baseball insiders believe the Philadelphia Phillies could be hiring him at some point soon.
Red Sox hope to salvage season
Boston is currently last in the American League East. The Red Sox made the change at manager with the hopes that Tracy could turn the ship around.
“We believe that Chad is the right guy to handle this transition and we’re going to put all of our effort into supporting him to do that,” Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said, per MLB.com. “And we’ll kind of figure out where that leads us.”
Tracy is excited for the challenge of leading Boston. He is the son of former MLB skipper Jim Tracy.
“Extremely proud day,” Jim said about his son getting the job.
The Red Sox play Tuesday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Boston has won three games in a row.
