AInsider weighs Alabama football’s Ryan Coleman-Williams NFL Draft dilemma after brutal 2025
The Alabama football program is currently gearing up for the upcoming 2026 college football season, which is slated to kick off in early September. The Crimson Tide are looking to bounce back after a rough end to the 2025 campaign with a blowout loss to the eventual national champion Indiana Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl last year.
One player who had a disappointing season in 2025 was wide receiver Ryan Coleman -Williams, who did not follow up his electric production as a freshman the prior year and was at times left out of the Tide’s receiver rotation altogether down the stretch of the season.
Recently, Jordan Reid of ESPN broke down how those struggles make the rising junior a difficult player to rank for the 2027 NFL Draft.
“After a spectacular freshman season, Coleman-Williams was highly inconsistent as a sophomore. His route-running ability and separation shined in 2025, but he struggled making routine catches. His 13% drop rate was the fourth worst in the FBS, and his 10 overall drops were tied for third most in the FBS,” noted Reid.
Indeed, Coleman-Williams had several brutal drops during the 2025 season, including a wide-open dropped touchdown in an early-season game against the Georgia Bulldogs, among many others.
As Reid noted, the star still has elite speed and route-running ability, but those tools will only get a player so far in the NFL if he is unable to hold onto the ball consistently.
This year, Coleman-Williams will look to recapture his form from the 2025 season, when he burst onto the scene as an electric freshman, making several mind-blowing plays and establishing himself as one of the most exciting players to watch in the sport.
Alabama football’s season will get underway in just under three months.
