Aaron Jones recalls JJ McCarthy’s surprising gesture after travel issue
The Minnesota Vikings are getting ready for a quarterback battle during training camp. JJ McCarthy will be competing with veteran Kyler Murray for Minnesota’s starting job in 2026. One veteran Vikings player just shared one kind favor that his teammate did for him earlier this offseason.
Vikings running back Aaron Jones shared one story about McCarthy during a recent interview at mandatory minicamp.
“I was actually flying back up here to re-sign and my flight got stuck in Chicago,” Jones told reporters on Wednesday. “I just happen to call JJ [McCarthy], I know my teammate he lives in Chicago. He came and picked me up and we got to hang out for the night. So we just got have some conversations then as well. So I’m really invested in all those guys in that locker room, it doesn’t matter who’s up, I’m important to everybody.”
Jones took the diplomatic path and did not choose a favorite in the quarterback battle.
So when will Vikings fans know who their starting quarterback will be this fall?
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said he knows when he’ll choose the team’s starting quarterback. Ultimately, he’ll choose whoever gives Minnesota the best chance to win games.
“I have an idea of the appropriate time to transition, prepare whoever that player is going to be to get ready to go,” O’Connell said. “You can have an idea all you want. But we’ve got a great plan in place. We want to make sure when we get to training camp we have a great plan. The ultimately decision is going to come down to what’s best for the Minnesota Vikings.”
It will be exciting to watch this quarterback battle during training camp later this summer.
