Aaron Boone responds to Aroldis Chapman demanding apology from Brian Cashman

Boston Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman has been adamant about demanding an apology from New York Yankees General Manager Brian Chapman. All due to rumors that Chapman may be looking to trade for Chapman and bring him back to the Yankees, per Enrique Rojas of ESPN.

Chapman and Cashman have been at odds since 2022, when Chapman was left off the postseason roster due to missing a mandatory practice. Chapman says he had permission to miss the practice.

Meanwhile, Yankees manager Aaron Boone is weighing in on the matter, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Essentially, Boone is willing to leave the past in the past.

“It’s water under the bridge for me,” he said. “I love Chappy. I have a really good relationship with him to this day, but the ending of the 2022 season is what it was. He wasn’t there, and I made the decision that I didn’t think it was best for him to come back at that point.”

Additionally, Boone says he has no regrets about keeping him off the roster at that time but accepts Chapman’s apology, per Gary Phillips of the New York Post Sports.

“At the end of the day, he wasn’t at the workout. I made the decision based on a lot of things and thought to leave him off because I thought that was the right thing to do for our club at the time. Chappy apologized, and, really, it’s water under the bridge for me.

The Yankees are looking to bring back Chapman as a replacement for current closer David Bednar, who has endured some recent struggles.
