2026 Sony Open: Chris Gotterup wins PGA Tour season opener
The first win of the 2026 PGA Tour season officially belongs to Chris Gotterup.
Last season’s Genesis Scottish Open Champion, Gotterup got off to an incredible start in Hawaii with an opening round at 7-under. He went 3-under through Friday and Saturday, but he was back with a closing 6-under round on Sunday to take home the win.
Nick Taylor was the event’s reigning champion and was looking to become its first repeat winner in over a decade (Jimmy Walker). An opening round that was one stroke better than Gotterup suggested this was possible, but he just couldn’t hold on over the weekend.
The PGA Tour will return stateside this week with the American Express and a week after that will mark a particular return in Brooks Koepka at Torrey Pines. It feels so great to have golf back and the next few weeks are shaping up to be spectacular.
Congratulations to Chris Gotterup!
