20-year-old heavyweight sensation scores vicious KO in less than one minute on professional debut

Adam Olaniyan started his professional heavyweight career in truly emphatic fashion.

The 20-year-old Irish sensation turned over into the paid ranks after a high-achieving stint as an amateur, where he won the World Youth Championships among many achievements.

He announced that instead of pursuing glory at the 2028 Olympics, that he would look to make a splash on the professional scene.

It was immediate business for Olaniyan who signed with Frank Warren, and earned a place on the Jazza Dickens vs Anthony Cacace bill in Dublin.

He took on 44-year-old Jan Bezouska, who had seen the professional ring just four times in his career.

So it proved from the opening bell, with Bezouska completely overmatched and out his depth from the first punch.

Olaniyan’s KO statement

Olaniyan certainly delivered on the big stage, sensing an explosive but routine victory in front of his home crowd.

He teed off on the Czech heavyweight and found his mark with a clubbing right hand which graised his head.

It saw him fall flat on his stomach to the canvas, but he managed to get back to his feet, gesturing as if the shot hit the back of his head and was illegal.

But he was on borrowed time, and without barely breaking a sweat, it was another clubbing right hand that ended the bout.

The veteran did nothing to fight back and fell flat on his stomach again in front of the referee, showing no balance or intention to survive.

Proceedings were quickly waved off to end any punishment for the five-fight operator, who showed very little.

It was a good win for the Irish star in the making nonetheless, who was delighted to get a first victory on his resume, despite the calibre of opposition.

Olaniyan – fights with Moses Itauma or Daniel Dubois?

It is very early on in the heavy-handed Irishman’s career, but in an age of excitement for domestic talent, he is already in the spotlight.

Many within the sport have tipped him to go right to the very top, and follow a similar rise to the likes of Moses Itauma and Daniel Dubois.

Potential fights with the best talent the division has to offer could lay in waiting for the Tallaght native.

And although being confident, he shrugged off potential bouts for now, insisting his focus is on building his experience.

He said: “I can appreciate how young they turned over and what they’ve accomplished. But I’m my own man.

“I’m not looking at their story and I’m not looking at their clock to set my time.

“I’m doing things at my own pace and when the time is right we’ll fight.

“And hopefully, God willing, they’re mega fights – me, Daniel, Moses – and we can just change heavyweight boxing for the better.”
