World Darts Championship betting tips

Standout Bet of the Day

Ryan Searle to beat Martin Schindler @ 8/11

Heavy Metal can rock into the next round by defeating Martin Schindler. Ryan Searle has cruised to the third round without dropping a set – and both his previous matches were in an afternoon session.

Searle was first match on in round two on Saturday, December 20, averaging 98.67 in a 3-0 thrashing of Brendan Dolan, and the long haired lover from Tiverton gets the same slot on the Sunday schedule.

Heavy Metal has made the fourth round of the World Championship three times previously, while this is uncharted terrain for Schindler.

While Searle could relax at home over Christmas, Schindler flew home to his native Germany to be with wife and child. He has never got past round three in six previous World Championships and can be denied passage again.

Possible surprise

Jermaine Wattimena to beat Gary Anderson @ 5/4

There is some inconsistency about Gary Anderson at the ripe old darting age of 55 and Jermaine Wattimena is well equipped to take advantage of any slip-ups from the Scottish veteran.

The Machine Gun, as Wattimena is known, can be a prolific 180 hitter – and almost unstoppable when in full flow. This match should see both players going in fits and starts, with spurts of power scoring, and it should come down to who shows most composure over their doubles.

Wattimena has improved hugely in the last few years, going deep in some elite competitions as well as winning a Players Championship, and coming through the first two rounds in final-set deciders will have done wonders for his self-belief. The value lies in the Dutch outsider.

Stats tips

Michael van Gerwen to win 4-1 @ 9/4

Michael van Gerwen stepped up massively on his first-round performance by playing superbly in a 3-1 second-round defeat of William O’Connor. With composure and confidence restored, expect Mighty Mike to destroy Arno Merk.

Van Gerwen has lost exactly a set in each of his first two matches of this championship and that trend could be set to continue.

Daily treble

Ryan Searle (8/11), Gian van Veen (1/12), Michael van Gerwen (1/11) @ 51/50

A Sunday treble comprising Ryan Searle and two power-scoring Dutchmen pays to 51/50.

Searle can see off German raider Martin Schindler in the opening match of the day, then Dutch dynamos Gian van Veen and Michael van Gerwen can show off their free-flowing skills in the evening session.

Van Veen is in a different league to Madars Razma. Van Veen’s confidence level is at an all-time high after he bounced back from losing the first set against Alan Soutar in the last round with some of the best darts seen in this year’s championship.

Van Veen can romp to a comfortable success against the limited Razma, while Van Gerwen, who showed flashes of his A-game during a 3-1 victory over the dangerous William O’Connor in the last round will feel he can easily brush aside German qualifier Arno Merk.
