Woody Marks start or sit: Week 17 fantasy football advice

The Houston Texans can clinch a playoff berth on Saturday when they travel to face the Los Angeles Chargers, and they should have running back Woody Marks back in the lineup. Marks injured his ankle in Week 15 and that cost him Week 16 against the Raiders. He was a DNP the first two days of practice that week before getting in a limited session on Friday and getting a questionable designation on the final injury report. Jawhar Jordan was the lead back with Nick Chubb getting work as a complement.

This week, Marks was a full participant all three days and was removed from the final injury report. He would appear to be good to go for the game.

Below, we’ll go over the fantasy football outlook of Woody Marks and the Texans running backs for Week 17.

Fantasy Football analysis: Woody Marks, RB, Texans

While Chubb and potentially Jordan will get some work behind Marks, Woody is the lead guy. If you’re going to start one of the Texans’ running backs in Week 17, it is Woody Marks. He has had six double digit performances in PPR leagues and four such performances in standard leagues. His best performance this season came in Week 4 when he rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown, and also caught four passes for 50 yards and a touchdown.

In his last performance in Week 15, he had seven rushes for 30 yards and one reception for eight yards before leaving the game with his ankle injury. He was on the field for only 15 snaps before the injury. The week prior in Week 14, he played 61 snaps, which accounted for 87% of the team’s offensive snaps. That was his highest snap count and percentage of the season.

This week, the Texans face a Chargers defense that has given up the fifth fewest fantasy points per game to running backs.

Start or sit in Week 17 fantasy football leagues?

Fringe start. This is not a strong start in standard or PPR leagues. Marks is not a heavy part of the passing game, with six total receptions over the past five games. He’s a better start in standard leagues than PPR leagues, but it’s not the most convincing of starts. With only three touchdowns on the season, there’s just not a lot of upside right now for him. There’s no real reason to worry about the ankle injury at this point, but he will lose some touches Chubb and Jordan. Marks is an RB3 at best in fantasy football championship games this weekend.
