The return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 has generated immense excitement among fans. With both modern-day greats set to represent Delhi and Mumbai respectively, fans are waiting to watch them play either via live telecast or streaming.

However, despite the star power involved, fans will not be able to watch either Kohli’s or Rohit’s matches on television or online platforms, raising questions over the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) broadcasting decisions.

Rohit is set to feature for Mumbai against Sikkim and Uttarakhand in Jaipur, while Virat will turn out for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat in Bengaluru. The matches record domestic appearances for both players as Rohit is playing the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the first time since 2018, while Kohli is returning after nearly 15 years. Their participation follows BCCI’s directive encouraging centrally contracted players to play domestic cricket when not on national duty.

Will BCCI broadcast Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma’s Vijay Hazare Trophy matches?

The primary reason behind the absence of broadcast lies in logistical limitations. The Vijay Hazare Trophy features all 38 teams in action simultaneously, with 19 matches being played on a single day. As is standard practice during domestic tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the BCCI only telecasts a limited number of games.

For the upcoming season, broadcast facilities have been set up at only two venues, including the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. Notably, only matches played at the main grounds at these venues are eligible for live telecast. Games held at ‘B’ grounds or at other centres are not covered.

Since Rohit’s Mumbai fixtures are scheduled in Jaipur and Kohli’s Delhi matches are being played at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, neither falls under the broadcast-enabled venues. Additionally, all Vijay Hazare matches in Bengaluru have been shifted from the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to the CoE due to security concerns pointed out by the Karnataka government. The matches at CoE will be held without spectators and without broadcast infrastructure.

However, there are some reports of last-minute changes. Earlier this year, Delhi’s Ranji Trophy match against Railways was added to the broadcast schedule after it was confirmed that Kohli would play. While that leaves a slim possibility open, there has been no official confirmation that the BCCI will alter its current broadcast plan for the group-stage games involving Kohli and Rohit.
