West Ham v Liverpool prediction
Liverpool make the trip to the capital city on Sunday as favourites for victory despite being in the mist of a torrid run of results in recent weeks.
Arne Slot’s side fell to a 4-1 defeat at home against PSV on Wednesday night, their third consecutive three-goal defeat, which they hadn’t done for 72 years.
The defending Premier League champions have also had a tough time domestically of late, losing three of their last four matches by 3-0 scorelines, including their most recent two league games against Manchester City and a Nottingham Forest side who made the trip to Anfield sat 19th in the table.
In total, the Reds, having won seven matches on the spin from their opening Premier League match, have since lost nine of their last 12 matches in all competitions, which sees them enter the weekend as far down as 12th in the standings.
Such is the tightly-congested Premier League table though, the Merseyside club are somehow only three points off the top four heading into the weekend, so will take confidence in the knowledge that victory on Sunday could leave them in a much more positive place.
West Ham, on the other hand, appear to have found some form after a disappointing start to the campaign, which saw them lost eight of their opening 10 matches in all competitions.
Since that run, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have picked up seven points from their last three matches, including back to back home victories against Newcastle and Burnley, and last week became just the second team to take points off Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
The recent upturn in form has seen the Hammers climb out of the relegation zone, but the club will not be satisfied with the 17th placed position they currently hold, separated from the bottom three only on goal difference, and will be intent on pushing up the table and towards the top half at the very least.
Only two teams have picked up fewer points at home in the Premier League this season than the east London side, though all six of those points have come in their last two outings at the London Stadium.
Liverpool have won eight of their last nine matches against West Ham, and have scored five goals on three different occasions in their last five meetings.
The Reds will see Sunday’s game as a perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways against a team who have struggled at home this season and are only outside the relegation zone on goal difference – I’m predicting a 2-1 away win.
West Ham v Liverpool betting tips
Reds’ revival
Liverpool will be desperate to get back to winning ways in the league after a less than ideal recent run of results, and will see West Ham, a side they’ve beaten on eight of their last nine meetings, as perfect opposition.
Only goal difference separates West Ham from the relegation zone heading into the weekend, and just two teams have won fewer points at their home stadium in the Premier League this season.
- Liverpool to win and both teams to score at 2/1 with Paddy Power
Eager Ekitike back in the goals
No player on either team has scored as many goals as Hugo Ekitike this season, and the Frenchman is in line to start up of front on Sunday afternoon, looking to add to his current tally of six goals for his new club.
- Hugo Ekitike to score at 7/5 with Bet Victor
Paqueta in a pickle
West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta has received more yellow cards this season than any other player in line to play on Sunday for either team.
The Brazil international has been booked in four of his last five Premier League appearances, including each of his last three, and sat out the Hammers’ draw at Bournemouth due to suspension.
- Lucas Paqueta to be carded at 2/1 with Paddy Power
