Wayne Rooney reveals son Kai is banned from wearing preferred football boots for Man United
Wayne Rooney has revealed that his son Kai has been banned from wearing his own Puma boots for Manchester United’s youth team.
The 16-year-old followed in his dad’s footballing footsteps having signed with the Red Devils aged 11.

He has huge expectations due to his dad’s legendary status at Old Trafford where he became United’s record goal-scorer with 253 goals in 559 appearances.
During his 13-year spell at the club, Wayne lifted the Premier league title five times, while help Unite claim Champions League glory in 2008.
Kai has developed into a promising forward and it didn’t take long for him to sign his first commercial deal.
He signed a boot deal with Puma in 2022 when he was just 12 however his status as the son of club legend Wayne, appears not to hold any perks when it comes to club policy.
Why is Kai unable to wear Puma boots?
During an appearance on The Smith Brothers: Not A Podcast, Wayne said: “He’s obviously with Puma but when he plays for the Manchester United U16s, something which I really like is he can’t wear his Puma boots.
“All the academy have to wear the same boots. They do it because there’s people from areas where they can’t afford certain boots so I think it’s really good.
“But he’s played for the U18s a few times and he can then wear his Puma boots. He’s doing well to be fair to him.”
Kai began playing for Darren Fletcher‘s under-18s this season whilst he was aged just 15.
He came off the bench for the games against Everton and Middlesbrough and even found the net against the Teessiders in a 5-0 win.
However, an early-season injury saw Kai ruled out of action and only recently returned to action.

He made a goalscoring return from the bench in United’s 6-0 Premier League Cup win over Birmingham.
After the win, the forward wrote on Instagram: “We back babyyyyyyy.”
Kai appears set on one day breaking into the senior team and already has one eye on winning football’s top honours.
Asked where he wants to be in five years, he recently told The Talent Hunter on Instagram: “Playing on the biggest stage amongst the best players, winning trophies.”
Wayne and Coleen share three other sons – Klay, Kit and Cass.
Klay has followed the lead of Kai by joining United’s academy system, while Cass plays in Everton’s youth setup.

Meanwhile, third son Kit, claims to have retired from football.
