Victor Wembanyama emphatically responds to Steve Kerr’s ‘game plan’ after making history with Shaq vs Warriors
Victor Wembanyama might actually be an alien after all.
The 7-foot-4 San Antonio Spurs superstar put up 41 points and 18 rebounds on the Golden State Warriors in a 127-113 victory on Wednesday night.

In doing so, Wembanyama made NBA history by becoming the youngest player to record 40-plus points and 15-plus rebounds in consecutive games at 22 years 87 days old.
But that wasn’t the only history that arguably the new face of the NBA made against the Warriors.
With the Spurs now having extended their win streak to 10 games, and Wemby having tallied 275 points, 132 rebounds and 34 blocks during that span, he joins an elite club of only Hakeem Olajuwon and Shaquille O’Neal to have posted those numbers.
Ahead of the game, though, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr revealed that he had put together a game plan specifically targeted at stopping Wembanyama.
“Oh, we got it. We’re not gonna reveal it,” Kerr said, via ESPN’s Marc J. Spears pre-game.
That plan has still seemingly yet to be revealed.
But Kerr, a nine-time NBA champion as a player and coach, accepted his slice of humble pie and praised the 22-year-old for his huge jump in development since he entered the league as the No. 1 overall NBA Draft pick in 2023.
“He’s got unbelievable confidence now. He looks like he knows exactly what to do at both ends [of the floor] all time the time,” Kerr told reporters postgame. “His first couple years he looked young at times. He doesn’t look young anymore. He looks like he knows exactly what he’s doing.
“Obviously dominated the glass. I thought Draymond [Green] did a really good job on him defensively and there’s plays where you can’t do anything about him.
“There were several lobs where it looked like a Nerf hoop. Just catching it and dropping it in. You kind of have to give him a little bit of space because of his ability to drive.

“A couple of plays, Draymond gave him some space and he just knocked down the jumpers, and from three-point range, three blocked shots. Yeah, he’s brilliant.”
Wemby continues late MVP charge
The matchup between the Spurs and the Warriors came just days after Warriors stalwart Green dealt Wembanyama a brutal truth over his public MVP declaration.
Essentially, the Spurs star is of the belief that he should be considered just as much of an MVP candidate, if not the leading frontrunner, over the current top candidates in reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the surging Luka Doncic.
Wembanyama even listed three reasons why he should be considered over his competition in the voting, citing his individual defensive impact, how the Spurs have performed against the reigning champions this season, and that offensive impact isn’t just scoring points.
“I do care deeply about it,” the Frenchman told Scott Van Pelt postgame when asked why he wants to win MVP.
“All of the greats that are in the Hall of Fame or are, in our mind, the best of all time, they have fought and grabbed everything they could grab early on in their career.

“If I want to make my spot among the greats, I gotta try to not miss any occasion I have to put my name up there.”
His comments drew some strong reaction among basketball fans, with one hailing him as having “GOAT mentality.”
“Just a goat at 22 years old chasing greatness and in my opinion the unanimous mvp its always been a no brainer,” a second added.
Wembanyama has just six regular season games left to add more evidence to the strong MVP case he’s building, with him currently looking like a lock to win the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.
That may be considered as just a consolation prize for Wemby though.
