Tyson Fury’s brother booed by fans as he remains unbeaten in controversial stoppage win

Roman Fury stopped Kevin Greenwood inside four rounds in Germany but fans were far from impressed.

Fury, half brother of former two-time heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, was returning to the ring for the first time in eight months.

He took on limited Greenwood, who also has experience in the bare-knuckle ranks fighting five times with promotion BKB.

The British southpaw Fury was looking to add a sixth straight victory to his professional record as he continues to work his way into the sport.

He was backed in his corner by brother Tommy and father John, as he went into the Lions’ den in Germany.

The bout took place on the undercard of Agit Kabayel’s clash with Damian Knyba, and went entirely to plan despite the crowd not being too fond.

Roman Fury’s stoppage win – why it ended controversially

Fury was on top from the very first bell against a Greenwood, who was clearly restricted in his abilities in the ring.

The Briton adopted a simple but effective style, boxing out of the southpaw stance and beating the sluggish Greenwood to almost every punch.

Greenwood started to look like the 42-year-old veteran that he was as the contest went on with Fury winning the rounds at ease.

But at no point did the ageing rival of Fury look to be in danger of being stopped, although the fourth round proved decisive.

Fury crushed a shot into the defenceless body of Greenwood followed by some tame looking hooks which landed, but didn’t appear to do much damage.

The referee ultimately though decided he had seen enough and stepped in to halt the action.

Greenwood protested the decision and waved his arms in the air, unsure why he’d been prevented from continuing.

His corner did the same, and audible boos erupted from the sold-out crowd, who weren’t buying the referee’s verdict.

Fans online were also quick to react, with one writing: “Shocking, fire that ref.”

Another added: “Wow, that was so premature. Fury was winning anyway.”

Fury’s reaction to booing fans and victory

Ultimately the 29-year-old Fury was content with getting back in the winning column.

He said: “People forget about me, I’ve not fought in eight months.

“This is a hell of a night for me. I want to thank the German crowd even if they don’t like me – thanks for coming.”
