Tyson Fury makes bizarre trainer decision ahead of Arslanbek Makhmudov comeback fight
Tyson Fury is going against the grain for his comeback fight.
‘The Gypsy King’ returns to the ring for the first time in 16 months on April 11 to lock horns with Russian slugger Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Now 37 years old and 37 fights deep into an illustrious career that has included two separate reigns as world heavyweight champion, Fury believes he has acquired all the necessary knowledge to prepare himself for the bout.
“I’m like Clubber Lang,” Fury said on the Netflix broadcast at yesterday’s pre-fight press conference.
“I’m going to train alone.
“I know what to do, I know how to go 12 rounds, I know how to push myself when I need to, but I also know when to take a rest when I need to.
“Boxing, people try to make it so much like rocket science, but it’s not.
“As long as you train hard and eat well and get plenty of rest, I think the rest of it, if you’re experienced like I am, an experienced veteran in this game, sometimes you need people to point stuff out to you and remind you of certain aspects.
“But what I don’t know about my own body now, I’m never going to know.”
If Fury’s words prove to be true, then it will mark the end, or at least a pause, of a six-year partnership with long-time trainer SugarHill Steward.
The Kronk technician took over from Ben Davison in 2020 and masterminded Fury’s back-to-back wins over Deontay Wilder.
He was also in his corner for victories over Dillian Whyte, Derek Chisora and Francis Ngannou, as well as his consecutive defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, which resulted in another short-lived retirement for the Mancunian.

Fury has been training in Thailand in preparation for his upcoming clash, and there has been no sign of Steward.
It is, however, understood that his father, John Fury, will play a role in his camp.

“I am going to be more involved this time,” Fury Sr told Goldstar Promotions.
“And hear this: Father and son… Tyson’s going to win the heavyweight championship for the third time, and you can bank your f***ing money on that!
“He’s not in fantastic shape, that’s bull****.
“But he will be. Have another look at him, because when I go out in the next week, there will be no more of this internet bull****, every move on the internet.

“Head down, work, and get a body. Learn to move again. Learn to twist and be awkward. Herky jerky.
“Look like a fighter, man. Look like a warrior. He’ll look like a f***ing Spartan by April, and he will be heavyweight champion of the world again.
“It does matter. It f***ing does matter. If it’s muscle, it does not matter.
“If it is fat, it matters. Anybody will tell you that. But listen, we know where we are going.
“I know where he went wrong. I know. And we are going to put it right.
“And if I’m wrong, I’ll walk through London, main street, with no trousers on and I’ll eat out a f***ing donkey.”
