Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool predictions and betting tips – Two imperfect sides meet

Liverpool returned to winning ways in the Premier League last weekend, beating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0. They will now be searching for another victory in north London on Saturday.

Will Liverpool come out on top once again, or can Tottenham Hotspur reduce the pressure on Thomas Frank by defeating the reigning champions?

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool predictions

After a 3-3 draw with Leeds United on December 6 and Mohamed Salah’s post-match outburst, Liverpool desperately needed a quiet week.

That is precisely what they got. Arne Slot left Salah out of the travelling party for the Champions League game against Inter, a decision which instantly put him under pressure.

Thankfully for Slot, the players that he selected did the business, as Liverpool left San Siro with a 1-0 victory that saw them rise to ninth in the table.

They followed that up with a 2-0 triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, a win which was even more important than the success against Inter.

Liverpool did not have everything their own way at Anfield. Brighton created several good opportunities and could have got something from the game had they not been so wasteful in the final third.

It was, however, undoubtedly an improved display from the Premier League champions, particularly in attack. Salah himself was sharp, even if his end product let him down on a couple of occasions.

“We had a lot of chances as well,” Slot said after the Brighton match. “In my opinion, we are starting to play better and better on the ball as well. And from the last five games we’ve played, we kept three clean sheets and that is something to build on.”

If things are looking up for Liverpool, the same cannot be said for Tottenham Hotspur. In fact, a 3-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest last weekend might well be the nadir of their season to date.

Spurs were dismal at the City Ground, as they were put to the sword by a Forest team just above the relegation zone.

More and more supporters are losing faith in Thomas Frank. It is still early days for the former Brentford head coach, who demonstrated plenty of acumen in his old job, but right now Frank and Tottenham look like an awkward fit.

Frank’s Brentford team were direct, getting the ball from back to front quickly. That is harder to do when you manage a team like Tottenham, who often have more possession than the opposition by default.

Injuries to players like James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski have not helped, but Frank is not doing enough to set Tottenham up in a way where they can create chances. It is an issue he must resolve soon.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool betting tips

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool will do battle in north London at 5.30pm on Saturday.

Liverpool to grab another win

There is a real chance that the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will turn on Frank and his team if things go badly on Saturday.

Liverpool will look to use that to their advantage. The home fans could get on their players’ backs if the Reds start well, so expect to see Slot’s side push forward early on.

Liverpool still do not look right defensively, but in Tottenham they are facing a team that offers very little in open play.

Having got their campaign back on track with those victories over Inter and Brighton, Liverpool can make it three wins on the bounce in their final assignment before Christmas.

Spurs struggling in attack

Tottenham drew a blank against Nottingham Forest last weekend. The most concerning thing is that they barely even looked like scoring.

That has been a recurrent problem through Frank’s tenure, particularly at home. Only three teams have scored fewer goals in front of their own fans than Spurs.

It is fair to say Liverpool have had their defensive problems this season, but this is a good chance for them to keep a clean sheet in a Premier League away match for the second time in three games.

This bet has paid out in three of Liverpool’s last four top-flight outings, and it is likely to do against a goal-shy Tottenham team too.

Ekitike the main man

For all the focus on Salah and Alexander Isak in recent weeks, Hugo Ekitike has been Liverpool’s most impressive attacking performer.

It was widely assumed that Ekitike would play second fiddle to Isak following the latter’s move from Newcastle United, but the Frenchman has made much more of an impact so far.

Ekitike has notched braces in his last two Premier League outings, so he is bound to get the nod ahead of Isak here.

Given the way he has been playing of late, do not be surprised if Ekitike gets his name on the scoresheet against Tottenham.
