Tottenham Hotspur told to replace Thomas Frank with ex-player who is two-time league winner as manager

Tottenham Hotspur should replace Thomas Frank with Robbie Keane with the north London club’s season faltering.

That’s according to former Spurs defender Ramon Vega, who believes Frank should resign just six months after joining the club from Brentford.

Spurs were beaten 2-1 by Liverpool last weekend and sit 14th in the Premier League with only one win from their last eight.

Frank was brought in as the successor to Ange Postecoglou in June after thoroughly impressing at fellow London side Brentford.

However, the Dane has not made a positive impression on Vega, and Frank has been criticised for a lack of success with the players at his disposal.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast after their 3-0 loss at Nottingham Forest earlier in December, Vega explained: “I already said I’m not sure about this guy. The first thing for him to do is to resign.

“What kind of time do you have in the Premier League? We are talking about Tottenham Hotspur here. This is a big club in England. You need instant success.

“You don’t have time. Three years, four years. So it’s a question also, what kind of time he’s been given?

“What have they done in the 20 years from a recruitment point of view? All these managers were there as well. They also had nothing put on the table. The only one where everybody was scrutinising was Ange [Postecoglou].

“He brought a trophy and he’s not even given a chance in the second year to actually prove it. Thomas has a full squad, not as many injuries like last year with Ange.

“We are pretty much better off now, better off last year than now in terms of points. So that’s where the problem is.

“Fundamentally, the recruitment point of view within the club has been neglected for years. Frank says anyone coming in will have difficulty even to build something.”

Vega continued: “Now, the question is, who’s going to potentially be good for this?

“I have a suggestion. Robbie Keane. He’s done very well and has just beat Rangers [in the Europa League].”

Robbie right for Spurs?

After winning the Israeli title at Maccabi Tel Aviv, Keane joined Hungarian side Ferencvaros as their head coach at the beginning of the year.

He won the Hungarian league during his first few months in the job and has them sitting second in the table this season.

Ferencvaros also look set to qualify for the Europa League last 16 following their 2-1 win over Rangers.

Keane was recently asked about working at Celtic, who he played for on loan from Spurs in 2010.

Wilfried Nancy was announced as their successor to Brendan Rodgers, who has since taken on a new challenge in Saudi Arabia as Al Qadsiah boss.

But Keane has left the door open for a future appointment at Celtic.

“Listen, you can never say never in football,” he said last earlier this month.

“Of course you don’t know, but I’m one of those guys that I never think too far ahead. I have to concentrate on what I do.

“Because you take your eye off the ball here and then you start losing games, and you lose your job.

“So, never say never, of course but at the moment, I’m very, very happy here. As I said before to your colleague, it’s a fantastic club.

“I think you’ve seen, the stadium is amazing, the training ground is great, the fans are incredible fans.

“A bit like the Celtic fans in terms of how loud they are and stuff, they’re really passionate about their team.”
