Thomas Tuchel told to pick one-cap England defender over Harry Maguire for World Cup
Trevoh Chalobah should be on the plane to the World Cup this summer.
That was the consensus on talkSPORT’s Inside Chelsea YouTube show, who were full of praise for the 26-year-old.

Chalobah has started all but one of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season, being a rare consistent presence in an injury-prone back line.
The likes of Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, and Benoit Badiashile have all had various injury problems in the 2025/26 campaign.
Chalobah has been a key figure for manager Liam Rosenior, and previously Enzo Maresca, and has been praised for his consistency.
Outstanding Chalobah
Speaking on Inside Chelsea, host Olivia Buzaglo said: “A player who I think has come on leaps and bounds is Trevoh Chalobah. He’s been an absolute rock at the back.
“He has been Chelsea’s most consistent centre-back. It’s now, without Levi Colwill, it’s who plays next to Trevoh.”
Former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy added: “Trevoh’s been outstanding. You know what you’re going to get. You are so secure in what Trevoh’s going to give us.
“I think he is probably one of the names on the team sheet that goes in there, and it is who plays alongside him in our best 11. Trevoh’s been as consistent as anyone in this team this season. No doubt about that.”
Chalobah at the World Cup
England boss Thomas Tuchel will have some big decisions to make over who he takes to the World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.
The Three Lions are blessed with talent in attack, but defence is a different story.
Chalobah was selected for Tuchel’s most recent England squad in November as a late call-up to replace Anthony Gordon, but did not play.

He still only has one cap to his name, making his debut in June 2025 against Senegal.
Dan Burn, Marc Guehi, Ezri Konsa, Jarell Quansah, and John Stones were also selected.
Meanwhile, Harry Maguire is making a late bid for a place but Tuchel is unlikely to take six centre-backs to the tournament.
When asked if he will be on the plane in the summer, Cundy said: “It’s going to be touch and go.
“I think he’s in the conversation, but so is Harry Maguire.
“It’s funny, you go back three or four weeks ago, no-one was talking about Harry Maguire.

“No-one was talking about Luke Shaw being in the England squad.
“But those performances, and because of the experience Maguire’s got, that might work against him.
“Everyone fit? I mean, I’m going [Ezri] Konsa and [Marc] Guehi. That’s probably our best two centre-back partnership for England.”
Cundy added: “He has been as consistent as anyone. In terms of English centre-halves, the same rules apply.
“I know he’s been consistent at Chelsea, but in the Premier League he’s been right up there for England.
“Tuchel knows him and there’s a very strong chance that he’ll be in there. I think we’ve got to look at the next squad.”
