The Chevron Championship is moving to Houston’s Memorial Park Golf Course
It was announced on Wednesday morning that the Chevron Championship, the first major championship of the LPGA season, is moving to Houston’s Memorial Park Golf Course beginning in 2026.
Obviously this major has undergone some changes in recent years as it only became the Chevron back in 2022. The Woodlands has played host to it each of the last three years (with victories seen by Lilia Vu, Nelly Korda, and Mao Saigo most recently) and is indeed moving nearby to Memorial Park within Clutch City.
Chevron U.S.A. Inc. and the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour today announced The Chevron Championship will move to the City of Houston’s Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston, Texas. The relocation marks a new chapter for the LPGA Tour’s first major of the season by bringing the event closer to Chevron’s new corporate headquarters and the center of downtown Houston.
Redesigned by renowned architect Tom Doak, the venue offers top-tier facilities and a welcoming experience for both players and fans, ensuring the continued success of one of the most esteemed events in women’s golf — the LPGA’s first major of the year.
“The Chevron Championship’s move to Memorial Park Golf Course demonstrates our continued commitment to growing the game of women’s golf and expanding our presence in the City of Houston,” said Laura Lane, chief corporate affairs officer for Chevron. “For more than a century, Houston has been central to Chevron’s story. Collaborating with Memorial Park allows us to honor that legacy while advancing our commitment to women’s golf and giving back to the community.”
The course’s proximity to downtown Houston and Chevron’s headquarters will continue to make it easy for fans, community partners and employees to attend the tournament and participate in its numerous community-focused initiatives. Memorial Park is also home to the Chevron Center for Education and Golf, where young Houstonians learn about STEM concepts through the game of golf.
“Chevron’s partnership continues to set a standard for what it means to invest in women’s golf — not just as a championship, but as a platform to inspire and grow the game,” said Craig Kessler, LPGA commissioner. “Moving The Chevron Championship to Memorial Park Golf Course strengthens that vision. It brings the event closer to the heart of Houston, connecting more fans and communities to our athletes, and helping ensure this major — a tradition that began in 1972 — continues to shine as one of the game’s most meaningful stages.”
“Houston is proud to deepen our partnership with Chevron by welcoming The Chevron Championship to Memorial Park. This move celebrates our shared sports legacy while showcasing the city’s bright future,” said John Whitmire, mayor of Houston. “Bringing this world-class event to Houston strengthens our position as a premier sports destination and creates opportunities to inspire the next generation through the game of golf.”
“Hosting The Chevron Championship, the LPGA’s first major of the year, at the City of Houston’s Memorial Park Golf Course underscores our commitment to providing a world-class fan and player experience that serves the larger Houston community and continues to showcase our great city to the world,” said Jim Crane, chairman of the Astros Golf Foundation. “The Astros Golf Foundation is proud to work alongside Chevron and the LPGA to amplify this major tournament and help more Houstonians experience world-class events in the heart of the city. This event will highlight the incredible talent of the LPGA, and advance the growth and reach of women’s golf — a mission we are proud to support.”
Memorial Park plays host to the Texas Children’s Houston Open on the PGA Tour (Min Woo Lee was the victor last year) so it is well familiar with setting things up at a world-class level. This appears to be a move with a serious future in mind and it makes sense for Memorial Park to tie itself to the two premier tours across the world of golf and to do so in a fun window of time.
Consider that the Houston Open will take place over the final weekend in March and then it will prep for the Chevron just a few weeks later. There is clearly an effort being made here for overall synergy in that sense and even more so with the city of Houston at large. Astros owner Jim Crane is quoted with regards to this news and his team has a home series that runs in parallel with each of these events. They are even hosting the New York Yankees during the week of the Chevron so it will make for quite the overall weekend.
The LPGA is experiencing all sorts of boom as of late and this news about their first major comes just a day after it was announced that they worked with TMRW Sports to help form the WTGL, a women’s version of the popular TGL concept that is in the middle of its second season. This season is shaping up to be incredible in all sorts of ways.
