Terence Crawford could join exclusive club featuring Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson after being nominated for iconic award
Terence Crawford has been nominated for the BBC Sports Personality World Sport Star of the Year 2025 award.
The American became undisputed super-middleweight champion when he defeated Canelo Alvarez in September.

In doing so, ‘Bud’ also became the first male three-weight undisputed champion of the four-belt era.
After dominating at super lightweight, welterweight and more recently super-middleweight, Crawford is undoubtedly one of the hottest names in boxing.
Having soared to new career heights this year, the Omaha, Nebraska, native is now in the running for the prestigious award.
The BBC’s World Sport Star of the Year award is given to a nominee from outside of the UK who has made the most substantial contribution to a sport each year.
Should Crawford beat the other five nominees, he will be following in the footsteps of Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield.
Ali impressively took home the award three times, between 1973 and 1978.
The icon went on to be named the BBC Sports Personality of the Century Award in 1999, for his legendary career and influence on boxing.
In 1989, Tyson scored the trophy after cementing his status as a global icon in just four years on the professional boxing scene.
Meanwhile, Holyfield is the last boxer to have received the award, having accepted it jointly with sprinter Michael Johnson back in 1996.
Who else has been nominated this year?

Last year’s winner, Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, has found himself up for the award once again.
Duplantis’ nomination comes after he continued to dominate the sport, having set the 14th world record of his career when he cleared 6.30m in September.
Among the new names on the list is Mariona Caldentey, who plays for Arsenal in the Women’s Super League.
The Spaniard was a key member of the Gunners’ squad as they won the Women’s Champions League last season.
Fellow footballer Mohamed Salah has also been shortlisted for the award, having been a key player in Liverpool’s Premier League title triumph last season.
Salah also took home an historic third PFA Player of the Year award Premier League Player of the Season, the Golden Boot, and the Playmaker award for most assists all in one campaign.

Elsewhere, LA Dodgers’ star Shohei Ohtani has also made it onto the six-person shortlist.
Having set a record of his own as he became the first pitcher since 1942 to hit three home runs in one game, the Japanese two-way player has cemented his status as one of baseball’s best ever.
Last but not least, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has been making her presence in her sport even more undeniable this year.
Widely viewed as the greatest female 400m hurdler of all time, McLaughlin-Levrone became the first athlete to have claimed world titles across both disciplines after switching to the 400m flat.
While each nominee has made lasting impacts in their respective sport, Crawford will certainly be hoping his name is called on December 18.
