Wednesday football tips
Bet of the Day – Wolves to beat Nottingham Forest @ 11/5
There has been plenty of conjecture surrounding Wolves and if Rob Edwards’ side will be able to avoid breaking Derby’s record-low Premier League points tally this season.
The Molineux men have collected only two points from their opening 13 top-flight games, which has left them eight adrift of Burnley in 19th and nine away from both safety and the unwanted benchmark of 11 that Derby collected in the 2007-08 season.
However, recent performances have been better than the results suggest, and while it’s difficult to continue keeping the faith, Wolves still look overpriced to beat Nottingham Forest.
Edwards’ side have seen five of their 11 Premier League defeats come by a single-goal margin this term, and the weekend’s 1-0 loss at Aston Villa, could have been very different had Jorgen Strand Larsen’s first-half strike been allowed to stand.
Of course, with relegation looming, points are more important than performances, but the underlying numbers suggest that Wolves aren’t as far away from Nottingham Forest’s level as the prices, or points tally, suggest.
Longshot of the Day – Arsenal, over 2.5 goals & Viktor Gyokeres to score 2+ bet builder @ 10/1
Arsenal failed to break down ten-man Chelsea and pick up a victory on Sunday, but the Gunners had put in two extremely impressive performances previously against Tottenham and Bayern Munich.
Mikel Arteta’s men are in calmer waters against Brentford on Wednesday and Arsenal are expected to record a comfortable success.
The north Londoners have scored 29 times in 10 matches at the Emirates this season and taking an Arsenal win and over 2.5 goals can form two legs of a bet builder.
Brentford are outperforming expectations this season, but much of the Bees’ sting has come at home.
Keith Andrews’ side have been beaten at Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Brighton so far this term.
Brentford have conceded at least two goals in each of those defeats and the returning Viktor Gyokeres looks a nice bet to score two or more at the Emirates, as he did against Leeds and Atletico Madrid. A three-leg bet builder pays 39/4.
Special of the Day – Liverpool, Aberdeen & Hearts treble @ 27/10
Liverpool looked to have found some solutions to their poor form when beating West Ham 2-0 on Sunday and the Reds should be far too good for Sunderland, who have already lost at Burnley, Manchester United and Fulham in the league.
In Scotland, it’s six games without defeat for Aberdeen and they can extend that to seven by seeing off the challenge of St Mirren at Pittodrie. The Buddies were beaten 3-1 by a poor Dundee side at the weekend and are likely to struggle in the Granite City against their in-form hosts.
Celtic have closed the gap on Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, but the Jambos can respond by beating Kilmarnock. It’s seven league games without success for Killie, a run started by a 3-0 defeat at home to Hearts, who remain unbeaten at home in the league with five wins and two draws and can get back on track on Wednesday.
