Bet of the day

LIVERPOOL TO BEAT WEST HAM @ 8/11

Arne Slot is under increasing pressure in the Liverpool hotseat after a poor start to the Reds’ Premier League title defence, but a trip to West Ham offers a golden chance for Merseysiders to get back on track.

Liverpool beat the Irons three times last season and this fixture, played just under a year ago, ended in a 5-0 victory for the visitors.

The Reds have headed south with less confidence this time, but they still boast far more quality than their hosts and can extend their record of success over the Hammers.

The key to the match could be the fact that big-money signing Alexander Isak is fit enough to start the game. The Swede, a £125m signing from Newcastle, has made a slow start to life at Anfield, but goals should start flowing soon.

Given the fragility of the home defence, which has suffered home defeats in the Premier League already this season to Chelsea, Tottenham, Crystal Palace and Brentford, Isak and the rest of the Liverpool attack will be expecting plenty of goalscoring opportunities. The 8/11 for an away win looks generous.

Chelsea v Arsenal

CHELSEA TO WIN AND LIAM DELAP TO SCORE – 13/2

Arsenal wobbled at Sunderland in their last Premier League road trip, underlining the fragility of the Gunners’ lead in the table. Mikel Arteta’s men have forged an early advantage, but recent history suggests they are far from certain to convert this buffer into glory.

A trip to Chelsea, who are breathing down Arsenal’s neck in the standings, is the last thing Arteta and his charges wanted at this stage of the season.

Being top at Christmas has traditionally been a significant sign of league success, but if Chelsea beat Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, there will be only three points between the sides.

That fact alone seems likely to fill Arsenal’s players with tension and Chelsea can confirm their status as serious title threats by taking advantage of the Gunners’ jitters.

A 3-0 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday night, in which Estevao starred, was an ideal warm-up for Chelsea. The Blues did not pick up any fresh injury problems and the Brazilian’s heroics mean he may get a starting slot against Arsenal.

That could see Pedro Neto shifted to the left wing, with Liam Delap the focal point of the attack. Chelsea to win and Delap to score looks a bargain at 6/1.

ASTON VILLA TO BEAT WOLVES, LIVERPOOL TO BEAT WEST HAM, REAL MADRID TO BEAT GIRONA – 47/20

A treble comprising Aston Villa, Liverpool and Real Madrid looks solid. Villa can make short work of basement club Wolves, who have lost six games in a row and have failed to score a goal in November.

Real Madrid triumphed 4-3 at Olympiacos on Wednesday night and can bolster their La Liga title charge by seeing off Girona.

Include the win for Liverpool at West Ham and the treble pays more than 47/20.
