Friday football tips

Bet of the Day – Middlesbrough to beat Hull @ 11/10

Middlesbrough’s season was upset by the recent departure of former manager Rob Edwards to Premier League side Wolves, but they can show they remain promotion contenders at Hull on Friday night.

Edwards’ replacement in the Riverside dugout, Kim Hellberg, got off to the perfect start in his first game in charge, as Boro claimed a 2-1 victory over Derby last weekend.

Boro hit 21 efforts on goal and nine corners in that success and Hull’s numbers do not compare favourably with Friday’s visitors to the MKM Stadium.

Only Championship bottom side Sheffield Wednesday are putting up worse expected goals numbers than the Tigers this term and the Humbersiders have been mighty fortunate to win six of their last 10 second-tier games.

Saturday’s effort at Stoke was better from Hull, but Sergej Jakirovic’s side had previously conceded xG numbers of 2.85 and 3.02 in defeats to Ipswich and QPR.

Middlesbrough have lost only two of their nine away league games this term and they can extend that good record by taking three points at the MKM Stadium.

Longshot of the Day – Middlesbrough to win, over 2.5 goals and Morgan Whittaker to score first bet builder @ 13/1

Middlesbrough should get the better of Hull on Friday night and the Tigers defence could be hit hard.

Hull have kept only one clean sheet in their last nine Championship matches and Jakirovic’s side have conceded 10 goals across their last five second-tier contests.

The Tigers have conceded expected goals against numbers of 0.8, 2.85 and 3.02 in their last three games and four of their last five have gone over 2.5 goals.

Middlesbrough have the attacking quality to punish a leaky Hull defence and Morgan Whittaker has hit form in recent weeks.

It’s three goals in three games for the former Plymouth forward and 24-year-old looks a solid shout to open the scoring.

A three-leg bet builder on Middlesbrough to win, over 2.5 goals and Morgan Whittaker to score first pays out at odds of 14/1.

Special of the Day – Morton to beat Queen’s Park, Mainz to beat Borussia Monchengladbach, Monaco to beat Brest @  29/4

Morton have lost only three of their last 11 Scottish Championship matches and they should be too good for a poor Queen’s Park side at Cappielow Park.

In Germany, Mainz have won only one of their 12 Bundesliga games this season, but the efforts of Bo Henriksen’s men in the Conference League indicate that they are a far better side than that record suggests and they can beat Borussia Monchengladbach.

Completing this 29/4 treble are Monaco, who are fancied to beat Brest in Ligue 1. The Red and Whites are an impressive attacking unit and they should be full of confidence after overcoming PSG 1-0 last weekend.
