talkSPORT betting tips – Best racing bets and expert advice at Sandown on Friday

The first day of Sandown’s Tingle Creek meeting kicks off this Friday with a host of competitive action for punters to get stuck into.

The card features Paul Nicholls’ eye-catching novice hurdler No Drama This End, who stormed home impressively at the November Meeting at Cheltenham and will be hoping to keep up his good form in the Grade 2 Betfair Winter Novices’ Hurdle.

George Bonds, has a trio of selections on the card including one from the other Grade 2 contest on the card in the Betfair Esher Novices’ Chase.

Friday Horse Racing tips

  • 1.10 – Keep Running @ 3/1
  • 2.20 – Salver @ 10/3
  • 3.30 – Caelan @ 10/1

1.10 Keep Running @ 3/1

Trainer Dan Skelton has won the last two renewals of this race and has a strong contender in Northern Air, who heads the market.

The Twiston-Davies’ look set to run Krak, who is dropping significantly down in class after his uninspiring run in the Grade 2 Persian War at Chepstow.

However, with only a single chase start between the pair, it is hard to back either with conviction. Therefore, the preference is for the more exposed KEEP RUNNING.

Warren Greatrex’s three-time chase winner ran respectably on his seasonal reappearance over hurdles last time out.

The seven-year-old often shapes as if he needs a run under his belt and it’s assumed that the run was a preparation for a campaign over fences and he should come along well for it.

2.20 Salver @ 10/3

Despite being a Grade 2, this Novice Chase has never seemed to attract that many challengers. However that doesn’t take away its competitiveness and this year is no exception.

Although only four horses are expected to run, the betting market suggests a very open race, with all runners holding a genuine chance of winning.

With this in mind, SALVER gets the vote here for the Gary and Josh Moore team. While The Doyen Quest impressed with a strong win over Quebecois at Exeter last time and the two horses meet again with claims, I think Salver is the one to be on.

He was slightly unlucky on his chase debut when finding the smart prospect Lulamba too good. His hurdle rating is significantly superior to the other two horses mentioned and he should show good improvement after his recent outing.

3.30 Caelan @ 10/1

The final race of day one of the Tingle Creek Festival is a 2m handicap hurdle for four-year-olds.

This looks to be a highly competitive affair and a tough race from a betting perspective, but the selection goes to Olly Murphy’s CAELAN.

The four-year-old ran well to finish second to the talented Kingston Sunflower at Huntingdon last time out.

Having dropped in class for his last run, he remains on an unchanged mark for this contest, suggesting connections are looking for the opportunity to go one better.

The gelding will also enjoy the additional benefit of having champion jockey Sean Bowen in the saddle.
