talkSPORT betting tips – Best NFL bets and expert advice for LA Chargers v Philadelphia Eagles

The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will look to get back on track in what is a mouth-watering clash against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football, in a game which could have huge implications on either team’s play-off chances.

The Eagles have lost their last two games to drop to 8-4 and put their hopes of top seeding in the NFC in jeopardy as well as the NFC East title destination, although the Dallas Cowboys failed to capitalise this week as they were downed 44-30 in Detroit on Thursday and are now 6-6-1.

The Chargers bounced back from a surprise 35-6 loss to the Jaguars before their bye week with a 31-14 defeat of the 31-14 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 13 to move to 8-4, and they will be desperate to maintain the momentum as they try to chase down the 10-2 Denver Broncos in the AFC West.

LA can exploit champions’ struggles

It could be folly to take on the Super Bowl champions if they were at the best, perhaps more so with QB Justin Herbert rated as questionable after undergoing a procedure on his non-throwing hand, but the expectation is that he will feature on Monday night, and plenty of questions have been raised about the stuttering Eagles in their two-game slump.

After blowing a 21-7 half-time lead against the Cowboys, who rushed for 125 yards while Dak Prescott three for 354, Philadelphia were busted open by Chicago at Lincoln Financial Field last week, with the Bears rushing for 281 yards with Kyle Monangai and D’Andre Swift each going for at least 125.

The Chargers are set to be boosted by the return of rookie RB Omarion Hampton from injury reserve following his ankle injury but Kimani Vidal is another viable option and there are multiple ways for LA to take the game to the Eagles and exploit their recent deficiencies.

The Chargers have struggled to protect their signal caller this season but Herbert still ranks in the top eight with 2842 yards through the air and sixth with 21 TD passes, and he can make the big plays to keep LA’s play-off hopes on track.

Jalen Carter being ruled out for the Eagles can only help, but Philadelphia are struggling on both sides of the ball and may fall short once again.

Vidal can maintain key role

Hampton’s return is a timely boost given that the Chargers’ need for the win is more desperate, particularly given their run-in with games against the Chiefs, Cowboys, Texans and Broncos, and he is certainly worth considering to pass his line of 43.5 in the rushing yards market.

However, Kimani Vidal has been filling in the void superbly and is unlikely to be cast aside so easily, particularly if the Eagles’ defence against the run continues to struggle so badly as it did against the Bears.

Vidal has rushed for 543 yards at an average of 4.5 yards per carry, has gone for 100+ yards in three of his last eight games, including a season’s best of 126 at 5.0 against the Raiders last week.

Reaching a total of at least 37 seems within his reach, having also gone for 95 yards against Pittsburgh in Week 11, with Hampton unlikely to be overburdened on his first game back from injury.

SoFi set for scoring struggle

Given the relative form of the two sides, the play-off implications that a defeat could have, a perhaps limited Herbert and a stuttering Eagles’ offence, this is unlikely to be a high-scoring shootout, particularly if the Chargers use the ground game to control the clock.

Three of the last four Philadelphia games have gone under Monday’s mark, two didn’t even surpass 25, with the 24-21 defeat to the Cowboys the one exception in that sequence.

Two of LA’s last three games have failed to breach 41 too, with the 31-14 win over the struggling Raiders last week just about clearing the line, but the Eagles will be a tougher nut to crack and this looks set to be a low-scorer.
