‘Still better than you’ – Ricky Evans takes prize money pop at haters after death threats

Ricky Evans may have lost, but he’s £35,000 richer and made sure to let his detractors know.

Evans bowed out of the World Darts Championship on Monday following a 4-2 loss to tournament debutant Charlie Manby.

The 35-year-old began brightly as he raced out to a 2-1 lead in sets and won eight of the first 12 legs.

However, Manby soon found his groove to rattle off three sets on the trot to complete the comeback and progress into the fourth round.

As Manby clicked into gear, Evans’ performance fell apart as he averaged 73.8 and 64.8 in the penultimate and final set respectively.

Evans’ frustrations came to a head moments before the end of the contest when his dart clipped the 20 section and fell to the floor.

As if the devastation of being eliminated from the World Championship wasn’t enough, Evans shared on Facebook he had received ‘death threats, hate and fat jokes’ in the aftermath of the defeat.

However, ‘Rapid’ wasn’t going to wallow in self-pity given that his run to the third round banked him a tidy five-figure pay day.

“Today wasn’t my day, I gave everything I could,” Evans wrote.

“Keep going Charlie, smash it up young man!!!!

“Thank you to the not so nice people for the death threats, hate & fat jokes…..I was poo and I’m still better than you.

“I’ve got the best parents & my girlfriend is an absolute worldie can’t wait to spend my winnings x.”

Evans’ run to the third round was the fifth time he had reached that stage of the World Championship.

However, he is yet to progress beyond that.

In fact, Evans has bowed out in the third round of the World Championship for the last three tournaments.

And in each of those matches, ‘Rapid’ lost 4-2.

As for Manby, he will face No. 10 seed Gian van Veen in the fourth round.

Van Veen represents Manby’s trickiest customer to date at the tournament, with the Dutchman reeling off averages of 97 and above in his first three contests.
