Spurs vs Sunderland predictions

Tottenham started the season off with a disappointing 0-0 draw against London rivals Brentford but still a point on the board in a very competitive season.

But that’s of course not stopped the criticism and push for more from Thomas Frank and his side from Tottenham fans.

They lost 3-0 to Nottingham Forest in December followed by a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool and sit 12th in the table but may find it tough coming up against a side who could reclaim a top five spot.

This could all be Sunderland if the pressure mounts on Spurs.

The Black cats could certainly dampen the atmosphere quickly which will help them tremendously if they get a good start, with or without an early goal.

Sunderland dropped off from being a top three side after a fair few games at the start of the season but then took tumble in the table with a string of losses and draws.

But they seem to have hit more consistency recently with a better defensive set up, albeit sometimes at the cost of a couple of goals themselves.

In fact they’ve only scored three goals in their last six Premier League games, one against Leeds (1-1), one in a 1-0 victory over Newcastle and another in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool.

Their 0-0 to Man City helped show they can make it difficult for top squads to break them down and that’s definitely going to be the case against Tottenham who can struggle for goals.

Sunderland lacking a clear top scorer

Wilson Isidor is the club’s top scorer with only four goals in 19 matches and there’s an array of other scorers including Enzo Le Fee, Chemsdine Talbi and Danny Ballard among some of those with two goals to their names.

With goals shared out fairly equally it’s tough to back any one of them specifically to score.

However, Granit Xhaka is the main focus of Sunderland’s play at times being at the heart of midfield in both attack and defence.

He’s been involved in six goals in 19 matches with five assists and has accumulated four yellow cards in that time as well.

The Swiss midfielder is sure to be heavily involved as a former Gunner facing Tottenham.
