Saturday horse racing tips
CHELTENHAM
- 1.50: Jagwar 7/2 (2pts)
2.25: Triple Trade 15/2 each-way (1pt)
3.00: They Call Me Hugo 7/2 (1pt)
3.35: Jubilee Alpha 9/4 (1pt)
Jagwar
Didn’t have the success over hurdles anyone really thought he would but when it comes to fences he’s more than lived up to his billing.
With four wins from five runs chasing he looks to be quite the horse for JP McManus and trainer Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero.
I think given his wins last year in big contests including two here over course and distance, he’s the deserved favourite that should live up to the price with more progress expected on his second season over fences.
Triple Trade
Well-treated on old form and with that bounce back on seasonal debut here last month he could have a shout on running well again upped just 5lb.
He’s still 7lb lower than when winning at Ascot in 2023 and at that time could barely do any wrong, beating the likes of Calico here in the November meeting as well.
They Call Me Hugo
Won well on stable debut and has his second run for Olly Murphy under Sean Bowen in the penultimate race of the day at Cheltenham.
That was a maiden hurdle but saw a roaring success on his third point start and is one to keep an eye on in the market.
Strong at 7/2 considering he’s coming up against a gelding who’s now rated 135 who’s as big as 7/4 still.
That rating has come from two wins under Derek Fox including over course and distance in October.
I have concerns about this favourite and as a result the Murphy-trained gelding by Doyen looks poised to improve straight into Grade 2 company.
Jubilee Alpha
Can see this mare improve from her just being beaten by Sweet Caryline on seasonal debut at Wincanton in November.
She was travelling smoothly and looked to be challenging with purpose before making a mistake at the second hurdle from home.
The mare did keep on and despite carrying nearly 2 stone more than the winner put up a strong challenge.
So much so she was raised 4lb for that second place finish and is another top-rated horse with potential for the Nicholls yard, Harry Cobden on board again.
