Roy Keane stunned by ‘peace offering’ from Rory McIlroy – who reveals wife’s reaction to viral Ryder Cup rant
Rory McIlroy has revealed his wife’s reaction to Roy Keane’s furious Ryder Cup rant.
The Masters champion also presented the former Manchester United captain with a heartfelt ‘peace offering’ to end their feud.

McIlroy joined Keane for the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast alongside Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Jill Scott and Ian Wright.
His appearance came just over two months after the retired midfielder had dug out Team Europe after their Ryder Cup win.
Luke Donald’s side clinched victory at the 45th staging of the event in September despite a toxic atmosphere at Bethpage Black.
Following their triumph, Keane had argued the players should have told their partners to stay at the hotel to avoid the abuse of the USA fans.
Watching back footage of his rant, McIlroy was left in hysterics by Keane’s angry outburst.
Meanwhile, Keane turned to the five-time major winner to ask: “Your wife’s not here is she?”
McIlroy replied: “No, she’s not. She loved it, though. She’s seen this.”
His wife Erica Stoll was subjected to abuse alongside members of Team Europe during last year’s Ryder Cup.
The behaviour of the crowd at the event prompted McIlroy to hit out after the visitors’ victory in New York.
McIlroy’s ‘peace offering’
Despite Keane’s lack of sympathy, he was presented with a special gift by the world number two.

When asked about winning the green jacket at Augusta National earlier in 2025, McIlroy revealed: “Can I do one thing first, though, from the Masters? I came here with a peace offering. Just to clear any (tension). This is a flag from the Masters.”
He then unfurled one of the iconic yellow flags from the course, which also had a message and his signature written on it.
Keane was left speechless by the gesture as he smiled and shook McIlroy’s hand.
The message written on the flag included a nod to Keane’s Manchester United career, reading: “Thanks for all the great memories watching United over the years.”
McIlroy added that the rest of the panel would also be receiving a flag, to which Keane quipped: “That spoils it.”
Keane’s Ryder Cup rant
The gesture came after Keane had aimed a dig at McIlroy and the players’ wives following the Ryder Cup.

His rant saw him criticise their response to the abuse from spectators during the event.
Reacting to the event on the Stick to Football podcast in October, he said: “They get upset because of their partners…let me tell you what I would say to my partner.
“If I was a golfer, and my partner was getting abuse, I’d say to my partner, or my wife, or my girlfriend, ‘Just stay in the hotel. I’ll see you tonight when I get back.
“You don’t come to the other tournaments, but guess what? You get a new outfit and come to the Ryder Cup!’
“You’ve got a new outfit, a new belt, and then I’m getting loads of stick? Well, go home!
“I guarantee you they’re going back to a nice hotel, they’re not in a camp, in a tent.
“They knew it was coming. It’s been built up for the last six months. Of course they knew they were going to get abused.”
