‘Patriots are back’ says Tom Brady who has big ambition for unexpected Super Bowl LX showdown

Tom Brady has made his pick for the winner of Super Bowl LX… sort of.

The New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks will battle it out for the Vince Lombardi Trophy at Super Bowl LX on February 8. at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

As a Patriots legend, many would come to expect that Brady would pick his former team where he won six Super Bowl rings and was part of one of the NFL‘s greatest dynasties which spanned for two decades.

But despite having a 12-foot bronze statue outside Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Brady is choosing to remain balanced and diplomatic in his views.

“I don’t have a dog in the fight in this one,” Brady told Jim Gray in the latest episode of the Let’s Go! podcast. “May the best team win.

And in terms of the Patriots, this is a new chapter in New England, and I’m glad everyone’s embraced the Mike Vrabel regime, all the amazing players that have worked so hard to get their club to this position.

We did it for 20 years. There was a little bit of a hiatus in there, but the Patriots are back and it’s a very exciting time for everyone in New England.”

What does Brady really want to see?

Whilst he didn’t give a straight answer on whether he wants to see his former team claim what would be an NFL record seventh Super Bowl ring in franchise history, Brady did have one request on what he wants to see from the contest.

Speaking about New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, who served as Brady’s OC for 11 seasons and is in his third spell as part of the Patriots’ coaching staff, Brady wanted to root for individual people.

“Josh McDaniels, who’s been a great friend of mine as well,” Brady added “And again, you root for people and you want them to have great performances. …

“I just wanna see good football. I wanna see good plays, good throws, good strategy, good decisions.”

Brady spent 20 seasons in New England under head coach Bill Belichick, who has recently — and controversially — been snubbed as a first ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer for 2026, as has Pats owner Robert Kraft.

There, he went from a sixth-round draft pick who played backup to Drew Bledsoe to having established himself as arguably the greatest NFL quarterback of all time by the time he laced up his cleats for the final time 23 years later.

But Super Bowl 60 is a rematch 11 years on from Super Bowl XLIX, most notable for Brady leading the Patriots to a come-from-behind victory after the Seahawks opted to pass the ball from the one-yard line instead of handing it off to devastating running back Marshawn Lynch.

Of course, that play is infamous for Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler picking off Russell Wilson‘s pass attempt which sealed Brady and New England’s fourth of six championship together.

Brady’s conflict of interest could be why he didn’t pick a side

There is also an argument to be made that Brady now also has a slight conflict of interest which could be why he has refrained from picking a side.

As a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, Brady has been instrumental in their search for a new head coach.

Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has emerged as the leading frontrunner for the role, with Las Vegas expected to appoint the 38-year-old following the conclusion of the Super Bowl.

With that in mind, Brady – who is also NFL on Fox’s lead color commentator on a 10-year, $375 million contract – has learned to separate the chapters of his football life.

“I think there’s always different chapters in your life and you have different chapters and moments that you go through where you’re affiliated with a certain team,” Brady said.

“At Michigan, and then I was with the Patriots for 20 years. I was with Tampa for three amazing years. I’ve been in broadcasting. Now I’m an owner of the Raiders.

“So those memories that I have are forever ingrained in me, and I’m indebted to all the people who worked so hard to help make our team successful.

“And now in a different phase in my life, I really root for people and the people I care about, the people who I know the work that goes into what they’re trying to accomplish.

“So I really wanna sit back as a fan and enjoy the game, enjoy the moment.”
