Pat McAfee announces new career after finding inspiration on ESPN’s College GameDay

Pat McAfee is a man of many talents — and he’s about to add singer to his resume.

That’s the plan, anyway.

The former Indianapolis Colts punter dominates the airways thanks to his podcast and ESPN appearances.

It was on College GameDay that his latest venture sprouted.

During an appearance in Oregon, McAfee freestyled live on air and saw his verse turned into a song called Dookie.

Where can I listen to Pat McAfee’s new song?

It dropped on Spotify Friday and will be followed by an entire album.

“There’s about to be a crazy addition to my life here over the next couple of weeks, months, or whatever,” McAfee revealed. “And this has been a lot of fun.

“This has been a journey into music, which I’ve obviously always been a huge fan.”

McAfee said he’s been jotting down musical notes for around two decades, so he will have plenty of inspiration to call on.

“The ‘Dookie’ freestyle that becomes a song is the first one we’re putting out,” he added. “But there’s some real-life messaging coming out in songs from me over the next couple of months.”

Reaction was mixed on social media with some hailing McAfee’s bravery and applauding the track.

Others were more sceptical.

“I love the show. Never be scared to be creative, but also make sure the people in your room aren’t lying to you,” wrote one.

“Love ya Pat, but can’t be glazing ya like the rest of the comments,” added a second.

A high-energy style isn’t for everyone, but whether he makes it as a musical artist of not, the McAfee experience is not going anywhere.

His podcast brings a huge audience and many fans tune in every Saturday to watch him on GameDay.

McAfee’s other side hustle as a WWE commentator has taken a back seat since his move into college football — the broadcaster cited mental exhaustion as a reason for stepping away in June.

But president Nick Khan is keen to get him back.
