Tom Latham and Devon Conway set a historic milestone by becoming the first opening batters to score centuries in both innings in men's Test cricket.

Latham registered scores of 137 off 246 & 101 off 130 while Conway scored 227 off 367 & 100 off 139 in the first innings and second innings, respectively. Their combined aggregate of 565 runs in the contest has also shattered the previous record for the highest number of runs scored by a team's opening batters. The previous best was 550 by Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs in 2003.

The two left-handed batters cashed in on a flat Bay Oval surface in Mount Maunganui to pile on the runs on West Indies in the final match of the red-ball leg of the all-format series. The Kiwis won the ODI and T20I legs 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.

The Roston Chase-led unit did not have answers to New Zealand's batting effort as the hosts milked runs with ease and without taking any risk. Latham and Conway added 323 and 192 for the opening wicket in the first and second innings, respectively.

West Indies required 419 runs for victory going into the final day of the Test. However, New Zealand remained on top  and took 10 wickets on the final day to win the Test series by a 2-0 margin. The hosts declared their first and second innings on 575/8 and 306/2, respectively.

New Zealand will now be on a hiatus for a three-week period before going to India for an eight-match white-ball series comprising three ODIs and five T20Is. After that, they will take part in the 20-team T20 World Cup which will be held across February and March in India and Sri Lanka.
