Nottingham Forest head into their Europa League encounter in red hot form following their exceptional 3-0 win at Anfield against the defending Premier League champions.
Sean Dyche’s side return to their home ground unbeaten in four games for the first time in seven months, and with only one defeat in their last six.
Forest, already on their third manager of the campaign after a disastrous start the season, especially bearing in mind their seventh placed finish last season, appear to have turned a corner in their campaign now, with Saturday’s win lifting them out of the drop zone and into 16th place in the Premier League table.
The two-time European champions have had a mixed start to their return to life on the European stage, currently sat 23rd in the league phase table in their first campaign on the continent in 30 years.
A hard-fought point in Seville against Real Betis was followed by a disappointing home defeat against Danish side Midtjylland, but a subsequent win over Porto and a point in Austria against Sturm Graz have contributed to their current run of just one defeat in six.
Malmo make the journey from Sweden to the east Midlands having won only one of their last five matches in all competitions, and haven’t made a competitive appearance since their final league game of the season two and a half weeks ago.
Victory over GAIS in that clash took Anes Mravac’s side, the 36-year-old currently in charge as a caretaker following Henrik Rydstrom’s dismissal in September, to a sixth placed finish, 16 points worse off than their title winning total of last season.
The Swedish side are unbeaten in their last two matches on the road though, but have endured a tough time in the Europa League so far this season, collecting just one point from their four matches to leave them 33rd in the 36-team table.
The two sides have met before on two occasions since their famous European Cup final in 1979 in Munich, meeting in the first round of the UEFA Cup in Forest’s last European campaign, which saw them lose 2-1 in Sweden, but a Bryan Roy goal in the second leg saw them through on away goals en route to reaching the quarter finals.
