Norwich have cheeky response on social media as blatant handball bags three points

Norwich City have responded on social media after a controversial 2-1 win over Southampton in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

Jovon Makama scored what proved to be the winner in the second half, but it appeared a blatant handball in the build-up to the game.

The goal came as a ball was pumped into the box from the left.

It was headed down into the box, and there was Makama to bundle the ball over the line.

It was clear on the replay that the striker basically punched the ball over the line.

It was his second of the game, and it proved to be the vital goal as well, but it shouldn’t have stood because it was handball.

And the Norwich X admin has been having a field day in response.

On the post about the second goal, the admin included a handshake emoji.

And at the end of the match, a few Southampton fans called out the goal for being a handball.

In response, a GIF of someone closing the blinds on another person was posted, so it’s clear the admin wasn’t having any of it.

By the end of the season, it could prove to be a very important three points, given they are embroiled in a relegation battle.

That win puts them on 17 points, two away from safety, while it stops Southampton’s push up the league.

The Saints had won six of their last seven and are looking to make the play-offs.

What has been said?

After the game, Makama was interviewed by talkSPORT’s Mike Sewell.

The goalscorer was asked about the importance of the win.

He said: “We’ve been working incredibly hard over the past few weeks, and we went after a team that was in incredible form, and it just shows what we can do as a team.

“We can go out there and fight and compete with the teams that are above us. It was such a good feeling to go out there and get three points.”

Things could have been very different for Norwich had Vladan Kovacevic not saved an Adam Armstrong penalty in the first half.

That gave Makama the chance to be Norwich’s hero.

Speaking about his double and taking on the responsibility of leading the line in Sargent’s absence, he said: “I want to score goals, and I could have scored more.

“But the impact I have had has been good, and with Sargent out of the team today, I had to step up and really take that on my back and try to get the win for the boys, and I did just that.”

Norwich have now won two of their last four in the Championship since Philippe Clement became manager, and the push to get out of the drop zone is well and truly on.
