Next Real Madrid manager odds: Ex-Liverpool boss at EVENS to replace Alonso at the Bernbeu

Jurgen Klopp is the current favourite to be named the next Real Madrid manager.

Xabi Alonso only took charge of Real Madrid in the summer but is already under scrutiny in his role after Wednesday night’s 2-1 home defeat against Manchester City left his side with just two wins from their last eight matches in all competitions.

The Spaniard was announced as manager at the end of last season prior to the Club World Cup, reaching the semi final, after spending the best part of three years as manager of Bayer Leverkusen.

In Germany, Alonso completed an unprecedented unbeaten domestic double in 2024, winning the club’s first ever Bundesliga title and a first DFB Pokal since in 1993 without losing a single game, also reaching the final of the Europa League in the same season.

The 44-year-old, who spent five years as a player for Real Madrid, winning a Champions League, a league title and three cups, started the current season well, winning 13 of his first 14 games but have since won just two of their last eight.

Los Blancos are now four points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, and only one point ahead of third placed Villarreal, who have played a game fewer, and have fallen to back to back home defeats in their last two game.

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is current favourite to be announced as Zidane’s successor, having been out of a managerial job since leaving Anfield in 2024 after almost nine years at the club.

The German, who has won a Champions League and three league titles among a host of other trophies in his managerial career, is currently the Head of Global Football at Red Bull, having signed a four-year contract at the start of the year, but could be tempted by a return to managing should Real Madrid come calling.

Zinedine Zidane is also being linked with a return to the Spanish capital for a third stint as Real Madrid manager.

The Frenchman is priced at 4/1 to replace Alonso in the dugout at the Santiago Bernabeu, though he is also the favourite to be named the new France manager once Didier Deschamps’ contract expires after the 2026 World Cup.

The 53-year-old has been without a job since his last spell at Real Madrid came to an end in the summer of 2021, and has won three Champions Leagues, two league titles and six other cup competitions across his five years managing at the club.

At joint-third place in the odds list are a duo currently in charge of Premier League sides, with Andoni Iraola of Bournemouth and Oliver Glasner of Crystal Palace both being linked with a move to Real Madrid, both priced at 12/1.

Iraola is in his third season managing Bournemouth, who had just shocked the league by surviving relegation in their first season back in the Premier League, but has impressed hugely on the south coast, last season equalling the club’s highest ever league finish, ninth.

The 43-year-old played for Spain in his playing days and could be tempted to return to his native country should Real Madrid come calling.

Glasner is approaching two years in the hotseat at Selhurst Park and has already written his name in folklore at the club after leading the south London to their first ever major trophy by lifting last season’s FA Cup, and following it up with victory in the Community Shield at the start of this season, with the Eagles currently in the top four of in the Premier League table.
