Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur predictions and betting tips – Howe’s men seek third win on bounce

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank is under pressure after his team’s run of poor form continued at the weekend. There is already a disconnect between the dugout and the terraces, and that usually spells trouble for any coach.

Newcastle United will be aiming to inflict more pain on Spurs on Tuesday. Will they do that, or can Frank pull out a result when he needs it most?

Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur predictions

Tottenham Hotspur parted ways with Ange Postecoglou at the end of last season despite their Europa League triumph.

Postecoglou was rightly given credit for guiding Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years, but a 17th-place finish in the Premier League was deemed unacceptable by his superiors.

Tottenham were indeed poor in the top flight last term. Postecoglou’s side were far too easy to play against, particularly in the second half of the campaign.

As is often the case, the north Londoners appointed a replacement with a very different outlook to Postecoglou.

Thomas Frank did a fine job at Brentford over a number of years, and his pragmatism and adaptability doubtless appealed to the outgoing chairman Daniel Levy and the rest of the hierarchy.

Yet while Frank’s qualities were initially welcomed by the club’s supporters, the relationship has begun to sour.

Every coach is ultimately judged on results and Tottenham’s have not been good enough of late. A 2-1 home loss to Fulham on Saturday was their third defeat on the bounce in all competitions, while Tottenham have won only one of their last seven encounters.

On top of that, Frank faces an additional problem. Spurs’s official motto is “to dare is to do”. This is a club which believes in doing things with a certain panache. Substance is welcome, but style is essential.

That is why Frank’s position looks delicate already. If Tottenham were 12th in the table but playing a brand of attractive, attacking football, the manager would be cut more slack.

As it is, Spurs are in the bottom half while playing a dull, uninspiring style. Most damaging is their dismal home form. Only Wolverhampton Wanderers have a worse record on familiar soil.

Of course, Frank deserves time to get things right. But first impressions are crucial and he has not made a particularly positive one.

A win at St James’ Park would alleviate some of the pressure on his shoulders, whereas another defeat would leave Frank with more questions to answer.

Unfortunately for the Dane, Newcastle have shown signs of life in the past fortnight, winning back-to-back Premier League matches for the first time this season.

Things could get worse before they get better for Tottenham’s beleaguered head coach.

Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur betting tips

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur will butt heads in the Premier League on Tuesday.

More trouble for Tottenham

Consistency has eluded Newcastle in 2025/26, as evidenced by the fact it took them until late November to win two league games in a row.

Their major problem has been the opposite of Tottenham’s: poor away form. On the flip side, Newcastle have generally thrived at St James’ Park, whereas Spurs have found life very difficult indeed in front of their own fans.

Frank’s team rank third in the away table, but their limp display at Arsenal last month showed they are far from perfect on their travels.

Tottenham have already lost at St James’ this term, going down 2-0 in the EFL Cup. Newcastle will have too much for them here.

Newcastle to start quickly

As well as often finding life difficult at opposition grounds, Newcastle sometimes struggle to get up for run-of-the-mill matches against lesser sides.

Eddie Howe’s side tend to raise their game in high-profile encounters, which is another reason why Tottenham could be in trouble on Tuesday.

The Magpies will look to make a fast start in front of what will almost certainly be a raucous atmosphere.

Tottenham’s confidence is fragile and they could end up conceding the first goal. Do not be surprised if Frank’s crew are behind at the interval.

Woltemade thriving for Magpies

The jury was out on Nick Woltemade when Newcastle spent a club-record £69m on the Germany international.

After the move was made official, Woltemade was criticised by notable figures back home, including Bayern Munich legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

However, the 23-year-old has enjoyed a fine start to life in the northeast of England, where he is already hugely popular with Newcastle fans.

Woltemade’s delicate finish against Everton on Saturday was his fifth goal in 10 Premier League appearances to date.

Only five players in the division have found the net more often, and Woltemade can add to his tally against Tottenham.
