Chatham’s Itauma has been out of action since August, when he halted Dillian Whyte inside the opening stanza.

While the precocious talent has barely put a foot wrong during an explosive start to life in the paid ranks, his handlers are struggling to find opponents that can provide the 21-year-old with rounds.

Itauma has only banked 26 rounds in his fledgling 13-0 career and hasn’t been extended beyond two frames in two and a half years.

Durable American Franklin has therefore been selected with those numbers in mind.

Franklin previously went the distance with Whyte and Anthony Joshua in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

And Queensberry are hopeful he can take Itauma into deep waters as well.
