Frontier Prince

Across Earth had plenty left after the second last hurdle to surge on and win at Sandown, but his jumping of the last two obstacles were a little concerning too.

He can learn plenty from it but will need to keep improving like novices do at this stage but he faces Ambiente Friendly who also won last time out.

This James Owen-trained horse was 2nd in the 2024 Derby but never really looked like that horse on the flat again after also placing third in the Irish Derby.

Dropped down in grades and trip but nothing seemed to suit, until making his second trip over hurdles, over course and distance where he kept on to grab the lead in the closing stages.

His jumping was also a concern but something you expect from four-year-olds and they both will have learned a lot from that.

Ambiente Friendly’s jumping in the closing stages was also worth noting, as they were determined, only lacking fluency over obstacles in the start of the race.

I think he’s going to come on from this well but it’s going to be Frontier Prince that will be the best bet for this race.

His form behind Jack Hyde (2nd) and French Emperor (1st) at Cheltenham in November was very encouraging based on his rivals form, in graded company too.

This should be easier for him and looks well suited to this type of track and the distance.
