Molly McCann’s opponent suffers horror cut as UFC star scores second pro boxing win

Molly McCann came out on top of a bloody bout on Saturday night.

The former UFC star notched a points victory over Ebonie Cotton to improve to 2-0 in her fledgling professional boxing career.

After six rounds of action, referee Ryan Churchill scored the fight 58-56 in McCann’s favour.

It was a high-octane affair that saw both women meet toe to toe in the centre of the ring.

Cotton put up an admirable effort and fought through a crimson mask for the second half of the fight after a nasty clash of heads in the fourth stanza.

But, in the end, the Liverpudlian proved too crafty.

Molly McCann’s professional boxing career so far

McCann competed 14 times (7-7) for the UFC during a 7-year stint.

However, she hung up her gloves in March after falling to a first-round submission loss against Brazil’s Alexia Thainara.

Four months later, it was confirmed that the 35-year-old had signed with Eddie Hearn‘s Matchroom Boxing.

Announcing the news in July, Hearn said: “This is all about Molly McCann, the official announcement that boxing is next.

“She has officially signed with Matchroom Boxing. Molly McCann will compete now as a boxer.

“It is about time as well. [She is] a former ABA champion; everyone knows her ability as a boxer.

“Obviously, she has been a massive star within the UFC, which has grown her profile globally.

“We are delighted to start the journey with her. We are going to fighting her all around the world, and there are going to be some massive nights.

“I had the pleasure of watching her cageside in the UFC, and the atmosphere, the energy and the fanbase of this woman is incredible.

“Great person, great fighter, and now putting the gloves on for real. The boxing journey is about to begin.”

McCann made her pro debut in September with a sixth-round stoppage victory over Kate Radomska.

Despite leaving the kicks behind her when she retired from MMA, the Liverpudlian had to fend off a rogue one from her opponent en route to the finish.
