Middlesbrough v Millwall prediction

Things are getting tetchy with just seven games to go in the Championship. The relegation fight is split by just four points from Oxford in 23rd and Blackburn in 19th place.

But looking up, two points split three clubs in the automatic promotion race.

Two of them, in Middlesbrough (2nd 71 points) and Millwall (4th 69 points) kick off the weekend, with the home side knowing they can put real distance between themselves at their promotion rivals. While keeping Ipswich at an arm’s length too, in third place.

This will be a clash of styles, albeit both have been successful to get to the cusp the Premier League.

Boro’s Kim Hellberg has installed a compact, flexible system that plays a proactive, possession-based style since he arrived in November 2025.

The Riverside outfit will try to overload the opposition in their half, with Hellberg’s philosophy nicknamed ‘Hell-ball’.

But the manager was tight-lipped if star men Hayden Hackney and Morgan Whittaker would return before Monday.

But it’s actually Millwall who are the team in form. If you look back over the last 10 games the Lions have won six and drawn two, only three teams have a better record in that time. Boro are down in fourth.

Momentum is imperative at this time of year and Millwall have it. But much like when Coventry faced Boro back in February, the quality shone through at just the right time.

Will Hellberg’s men prove why they’re made for the Premier League?

Middlesbrough v Millwall betting tips

Resilient Boro

Middlesbrough have conceded only 14 goals at home this season, an average of 0.74 per match.

This game will be a tense affair and may only be won by the odd goal. Since the loss to Coventry in February, five of their seven matches have featured under 2.5 goals.

But this is Hellberg’s stickiest point of his time in charge, winless in three, taking only two points in that time.

But home form could prove vital to the result, but to hedge your bets it may be wise to go with the double chance value.

Millwall in hot form

Alex Neil have got the south Londoners flying and still in with a real shout of automatic promotion.

The club were on a four match winning run in February and March before a shock loss to Blackburn two weeks ago.

A game which both teams couldn’t afford to lose followed. As they played out a 1-1 draw with Ipswich.

Millwall could go as high a second by Friday night. But a loss could really put them on the back foot.
