Matt Le Tissier handed new job at Southampton four years after quitting role due to backlash
Matt Le Tissier has reportedly returned to Southampton four years after quitting his role at the club.
The Saints legend had been working as an ambassador for the Championship side before his departure in April 2022.

He quit his previous role after backlash over his social media activity, with Le Tissier facing criticism for posts made on X.
However, the 57-year-old has now returned to St. Mary’s in a new position.
According to the Daily Echo, Le Tissier has been appointed in an advisory position to the board.
It will see him work with the club’s football department moving forward.
The club are said to be hopeful that Le Tissier’s experience can help their decision-making.
He had already been advising the club on an informal basis prior to returning in an official capacity.
Le Tissier previously worked for the Saints as a club ambassador before his exit four years ago.
The former midfielder quit after facing backlash for posts made on X about the war in Ukraine.
Gary Lineker and comedian David Baddiel were amongst those to publicly criticise Le Tissier.
It came after he had shared conspiracy theories regarding the conflict on social media.

Le Tissier’s Southampton career
As a player, Le Tissier spent almost his entire senior career with Southampton.
He scored 209 goals in 462 appearances between 1986 and 2002.
Le Tissier is also the club’s all-time top scorer in the Premier League with 101 goals in 270 outings.
His tally also made him the first midfielder to score a century of goals in the Premier League.
After leaving the club, he spent a season in non-league with Eastleigh before retiring.
The former England international won eight caps for the Three Lions during his career.

As for the Saints, they currently sit seventh in the Championship following relegation last season.
Although they are a point outside the play-offs, they have a game in hand on those above them.
Tonda Eckert’s side face Arsenal in the quarter-finals of this season’s FA Cup on Saturday evening.
The two sides meet at St. Mary’s with kick-off at 8pm, live on talkSPORT.
