Liverpool finally got a win last time out just their seventh of the season, but they still have nine points to make up on Arsenal and seven places.

Their win over West Ham was one they should be winning even given the circumstances of their poor form, but now facing Sunderland they will have to use that momentum.

It’s tough to side with them at this stage and it’s looking better value backing Sunderland to get something from this match, or at least making this too tough for the Reds.

Can Liverpool keep that winning momentum?

Sunderland sit just above Liverpool in the Premier League table by two places going into this gameweek.

Just one point separates them and it’s one that on paper suggests there should be a good few goals in it.

Liverpool have scored as many as 20 so far this season in the league but have somehow also conceded 20.

Sunderland are, on average, conceding one goal per game with 13 in 13 games and are seemingly outperforming their expectations with a great start to the campaign that has continued even into these middle stages of the season.

The Black Cats have a set-up that really seems to be working and one that looks like it will cause problems for a Liverpool side looking a bit nervy.

Sunderland will be able to start strongly to set the nerves going in Anfield but will also be met with a response from the hosts at some stage.

Who will star at Anfield?

Granit Xhaka has been a standout for Sunderland already since joining from the Bundesliga.

The former Arsenal man has become a fan favourite quickly becoming captain and leading his side from the middle.

He’s been heavily involved not just in defensive duties either but also in general with four yellow cards, four assists and one goal in his 13 appearances.

The 33-year-old is one booking away from a suspension but it may come to it in this important tie.

He’s picked up six cards and a goal in his 12 appearances against Liverpool before so that adds to his chances for Sunderland too.
