Leeds vs Liverpool predictions
After beating West Ham United last weekend, Liverpool fans hoped their team had turned a corner. But a 1-1 draw with Sunderland in the midweek round of fixtures showed there is still a long way to go.
Sunderland have been the surprise package of the season, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa (three of the top four) having all dropped points against them. Even so, Liverpool were disappointing at Anfield on Wednesday.
They fell behind midway through the second half when Chemsdine Talbi beat Alisson Becker. An own goal from Nordi Mukiele brought Liverpool level, but they could not find a winner thereafter.
In fact, Sunderland came closest to scoring the game’s third goal, but some diligent tracking back from Federico Chiesa saved Liverpool as he cleared a Wilson Isidor shot off the line.
It was a lacklustre display from Arne Slot’s side, who are struggling to recapture the spark they showed last term. Only four of their 23 shots on Wednesday found the target. Sunderland, by contrast, landed six strikes on Alisson’s goal.
Liverpool had plenty of the ball, as you would expect in a home game against opponents that prefer the counter-attack, but for long spells they did not ask Sunderland enough questions.
The title is gone already for Liverpool, who will not be able to make up an 11-point deficit to Arsenal. But for all the doom and gloom around Anfield right now, the Reds can still have a successful season.
A top-four finish combined with Champions League glory would represent a fantastic campaign. Of course, Liverpool would need to improve immensely to go all the way in Europe, but they must not feel sorry for themselves. There is still plenty to play for this term.
The problem is, the issues run deep. Liverpool have not played well all campaign, even when they won their first five games.
Their summer signings have, for the most part, underwhelmed up to now, while Mohamed Salah is really struggling for form. Liverpool look fragile defensively and they are not the attacking force they were last season either.
All of a sudden this trip to Elland Road, where Leeds United beat Chelsea 3-1 on Wednesday, looks like a potential banana skin. If Liverpool are to depart Yorkshire with all three points this weekend, they will have to work hard for it.

Leeds United vs Liverpool betting tips
Liverpool will be searching for an important win when they face Leeds United.
Leeds can get something
Leeds were fantastic against Chelsea last time out. It was not a smash-and-grab triumph, but rather a completely deserved one. Even Enzo Maresca admitted as much after the match.
Leeds created the better chances on the night. It helped that they played with aggression and intensity throughout, and Daniel Farke will want to see more of the same here.
Indeed, Liverpool will need to match Leeds’s energy if they are to emerge victorious against the relegation battlers.
The Reds are stuck in a rut at present. There is no doubt they have more quality at their disposal than Leeds on paper, but football is played on grass.
The Whites can get something against the defending champions.

Entertainment in store
The jury is still out on Farke as a Premier League manager, including among members of his own fan base.
The victory over Chelsea bought him some much-needed breathing space, though, and another wholehearted performance against Liverpool would do similar regardless of the result.
Leeds must get the balance right between attack and defence. Only three teams have conceded more goals so far this season, so they are not the most solid side in the division.
But given how shaky Liverpool’s backline has looked recently, Farke’s men can cause their illustrious opponents plenty of problems. Entertainment awaits at Elland Road.

Nmecha on scoresheet?
Farke switched to a 3-5-2 formation in the second half against Manchester City last weekend.
Leeds looked much better in that system, so it was no surprise to see them use it from the start against Chelsea.
Lukas Nmecha will therefore be joined up front by Dominic Calvert-Lewin once more on Saturday.
Nmecha will not challenge for the Golden Boot this term, but his four goals up to this point have been important for Leeds.
The German can move halfway to double figures when Liverpool come to town.
