Lakers’ Luka Doncic day-to-day with lower leg contusion

Recently, the Los Angeles Lakers fell back down to Earth with an ugly road loss against the crosstown rival Los Angeles Clippers. Los Angeles was down three starters to begin this game, with Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and Deandre Ayton all being injured, and by the end, Luka Doncic had also joined them on the sidelines with a leg injury.

On Monday, the team got an update on Doncic’s status moving forward in the wake of the injury.

“Luka Dončić is being listed as day-to-day going forward with a lower left leg contusion, says Lakers coach JJ Redick,” reported NBA insider Marc Stein on X, formerly Twitter.

It’s certainly not the worst news in the world for the Lakers considering the scare that occurred when Doncic was forced to leave the game on Saturday.

Overall, injuries have been an issue so far for the Lakers this year, with LeBron James missing the opening chunk of the season, Austin Reaves now having been out of the lineup for over a week, and Doncic now slated for another absence after previously missing time earlier this year.

With this being the case, the team’s depth has been tested, as has head coach JJ Redick’s ability to configure effective lineups that can get it done on both ends of the floor.

In any case, the Lakers will next take the court on Tuesday evening for a road game against the Phoenix Suns. That contest is slated to tip off at 9:00 pm ET from the desert.
