Key Missouri figure exacts petty revenge on Chiefs over Kansas snub and new $4bn stadium across state

The Chiefs have called Missouri home since the franchise relocated from Dallas in 1963.

Former owner Lamar Hunt first set up in Municipal Stadium before heading to Arrowhead in 1973.

The Chiefs have brought plenty of good times and three Super Bowl titles to Missouri, but will head across state lines after being lured to Kansas to build a $4billion domed area, which is not yet fully confirmed.

Missouri senator Nick Schroer has taken it personally.

Per Hannah Falcon of KY3.com, he introduced a resolution that would remove the Chiefs’ status as the state’s official football team and hand it to the UFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks.

“[B]ased on recent events, it has become clear that the will of the people of the state of Missouri has changed with regard to the designation of the Kansas City Chiefs as the official NFL football team of this state,” it states. “And… the Kansas City Chiefs football organization has indicated that, despite years of fan support and financial support from the citizens of this state, the team wants to relocate the team to the state of Kansas.”

Why are the Chiefs leaving Missouri?

The Chiefs did consider staying at Arrowhead in a costly renovation.

But the voters Jackson County rejected a measure to extend a sales tax to pay for it

Kansas came up with the cash, and that was enough for the hunt family.

Incredibly, Missouri has now lost three NFL teams after the Cardinals and Rams left St Louis for Arizona and California, respectively.

If Schroer’s plan comes off, the joy may be short lived.

The UFL moved three of its eight franchises after the 2025 season.

There is no loyalty when it comes to football — it’s all business.

The Chiefs plan to move in time for the 2031 season, leaving Jackson County with a decision to make.

MLB‘s Kansas City Royals are also expected to leave the neighboring Kauffman Stadium at the same time, leaving a huge car park and two empty shells.

Legislator Manny Abarca sent a letter to the Jackson County Executive asking for the Chiefs’ sales tax to be put aside for five years to raise $137 million for a demolition and redevelopment fund.

“The Jackson County taxpayers deserve not to have a two-stadium empty lot,” Abarca told FOX4.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas has another vision.

“We do still have active bids for the Women’s World Cup and World Cup Rugby 2031 and 2033 using Arrowhead Stadium by the way as the location for both,” he said via Fox4.

He is also hoping to turn Arrowhead into an entertainment venue, while Kauffman will be torn down.

“We will have conversations very soon with folks that can work with us on what do you for entertainment purposes in that area,” Lucas added.

The 76,000-seat venue needs around $20 million a year to maintain and demolition would cost an estimated $150 million.
