12.10 JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle (Class 2) 2m1f
One Horse Town has impressed since going over hurdles making it a perfect 4-4 beating Precious Man at this track last month. His overall form isn’t insurmountable though and he might struggle to give weight here.
ARNOLPHE represents Dan and Harry Skelton and while it is a bit of a guessing game with him making his debut here they should have a good line on the favourite and the money seems to be coming so that is encouraging.
Minella Study improved to beat Ammes at Wetherby but again this looks a stronger contest so he’ll need to find more if he is to back that performance up. At a bigger price Cinammon Coco could also have a squeak.
Bet on ARNOLPHE each way at 9/2 with Betfred
12.40 Michael Eakins Senior Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (Class 3) 3m11/2f
I loved the way THE JUKEBOX KID stayed on to win on chase debut at Carlisle last month. He jumped well and really kicked away from the field late on suggesting this step up in trip is only going to play to his strengths.
The runner-up Grand Geste has gone down just a nose since and the third First Confession has run well too so the form is stacking up. He has more to come and is a horse to keep on side.
First Confession opposes again and looks one of the dangers. Zertakt would have won last time but for a slow jump at the last so if improving and jumping better could also have a say in this but the fav is definitely the one to beat.
Bet on THE JUKEBOX KID to win at 15/8 with Paddy Power
1.15 Quintessentially Mares’ Handicap Chase (Class 3) 2m41/2f
It could be a good day for the Skelton team and THEONEWEDREAMOF looks decent value to take this handicap chase.
She shaped with promise on return at Chepstow and then came forward to win readily at Exeter last time. Her form is working out well and with more to come she should have a great chance in this off her revised mark.
She Is For Me Boys is on a four-timer and brings untapped potential to the table but she is up 7lb and this is the toughest company she would have faced and not much value in her price. Greyval needs to better what we’ve seen recently but is capable of doing so and is another one to note.
Bet on THEONEWEDREAMOF each way at 11/2 with bet365
1.50 Support The Hunt Family Fund December Gold Cup Handicap Chase (Premier Handicap) (Class 1) 2m41/2f
I think we have all been waiting to see JAGWAR out again. It was a shame he missed the November meeting but as a result arrives here fresh.
He was hugely progressive over fences last season and promises to do even better this season. There are some nice pots to be won with him and I fully expect him to get the better of these.
Hoe Joly Smoke travelled like a dream into it last time before finishing third. If he builds on that again he will be a major threat to the selection. Vincenzo beat all bar Panic Attack so is another one who definitely has a big chance here.
Bet on JAGWAR to win at 7/2 with Tote
2.25 Read Meg Nicholls’ Blog At betmgm.co.uk Handicap Chase (Class 2) 2m1/2f
I want to try and oppose the top of the market here and COUNTRY MILE could be the lurker for the Skelton team. He has only had 7 career starts and just the two over fences.
He should find this a bit easier and will stay further so if they go hard I can see him finishing well up the hill here. He will be hitting peak fitness and should have a bit to spare off this mark.
David’s Well is likeable and has won all 3 starts over fences so shouldn’t be underestimated but I do have my concerns over him around this track and at the odds I’m happy to oppose. Jpr One was back to form when third at Ascot last time and is a player if building on that run here.
Bet on COUNTRY MILE each way at 6/1 with BetVictor
3.00 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (Class 1) 3m
I’m all over CONMAN JOHN here. He showed a good attitude to win on hurdles debut at Kelso and then followed up emphatically at this track when last seen.
Given time since he is open to further improvement and looks a great bet to complete the hat-trick now. The ground looks perfect and he is hard to pick holes in.
They Call Me Hugo won readily at Ffos Las and was well backed so with improvement to come looks the danger but I’d say the drying ground is against him. Reckless Spending should appreciate this trip and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him run better here.
Bet on CONMAN JOHN to win at 11/8 with BetVictor
3.35 Download The BetMGM App Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 2m41/2f
I thought a poor ride cost JUBILEE ALPHA at Wincanton last month. She was just given too much to do and a bad mistake 2 out cost her any chance.
Cobden hopefully has learned from his mistake and she is ridden more forward. She is easily the most talented of these and should prove the answer in the lucky last.
Siog Geal was beaten just a length and a half at Carlisle and if building on that can give her most to think about here. Sweet Caryline beat the selection last time but I’ll be amazed if she manages to confirm that form here.
Bet on JUBILEE ALPHA to win at 2/1 with bet365
My top tip for Saturday’s racing at Cheltenham’s December Meeting
Unbeaten over hurdles CONMAN JOHN looks a great bet to complete the hat-trick. He has the ground in his favour and should have too much for them. I’ve doubled him up with THE JUKEBOX KID who should love the trip and has bundles more to come over fences.
Bet a Win Double on THE JUKEBOX KID and CONMAN JOHN at 13/2 with bet365
