Jalen Hurts is the most disrespected Super Bowl MVP in NFL history

Jalen Hurts was better than Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl.

Fourteen months after guiding the Philadelphia Eagles to a 40-22 blowout of the Kansas City Chiefs inside a roaring Superdome in New Orleans, Hurts is again being shredded in the media in a curiously timed ‘hit piece.’

Eagles and Hurts have a big problem

There’s no official rating for the most disrespected MVP in Super Bowl history.

If there was, Hurts would be the obvious champion.

Jalen Hurts is one of the most under-appreciated winners in the NFL and one of the most disrespected Super Bowl MVPs ever,” former NFL QB Robert Griffin III tweeted.

“The Jalen Hurts hit pieces are getting out of hand and ridiculous.”

I don’t always agree with RGIII in his post-NFL career.

But he’s 100 percent right with the above observation.

Philly fans either love or hate head coach Nick Sirianni, who is constantly on the verge of being fired despite holding a 59-26 record in the regular season and going 6-4 in the playoffs with two Super Bowl appearances.

A.J. Brown has taken shots at the Eagles’ offense for years, and he’s the most tradeable star wide receiver in the NFL right now.

Is Hurts staying with the Eagles?

Hurts has constantly powered through the drama, used his platform to keep the Eagles united, and has been to two Super Bowls in six seasons.

The former No. 53 overall (second round) draft pick produced 3,645 total yards and 33 touchdowns last season, and finished 12th in the league in passer rating (98.5).

For that last stat, Hurts topped Aaron Rodgers, Justin Herbert, Jaxson Dart, C.J. Stroud, Trevor Lawrence, Baker Mayfield and Caleb Williams.

The supremely disrespected Hurts was also better than Mahomes last year in passer rating.

But a recent ESPN story placed Hurts in the middle of the Eagles’ offensive frustrations, asserting that the sixth-year QB pushed back against an attempt to get him to play under center more and changed on-field play calls to “an excessive degree.”

Everything about the Hurts hate has been ‘excessive,’ partly because Philly sports often turns into a black hole filled with daily criticism, anonymous venting and needless unhappiness.

Good luck finding a better QB, Philly fans

The Eagles went 11-6 last season and won the NFC East.

The year prior, they went 14-3 and demolished their opponents in the playoffs on the way to humbling Mahomes and the clearly beaten Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

NFL's Greatest......

Ranking the top 10......

Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?

Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?

Running backs of all-time – Stacking Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith and more

Tight ends of all-time – How does Travis Kelce compare?

Thirty-one other teams would love to have the Eagles’ talent problems.

Sure, Hurts can be limited as a passer and the peak of the ‘Tush Push’ is sometimes stubborn between the lines.

He also leads what should be a run-first offense powered by 2024 Offensive Player of the Year Saquon Barkley, and has been forced to annually adapt to new offensive coordinators.

Sean Mannion is the latest OC whom Hurts must adjust to and immediately impress.

But Hurts deserves a lengthy, source-filled national report that is published just after the NFL owners meetings wrap up — and before the 2026 NFL Draft?

Only in Philly.

Feels like a blockbuster Eagles trade is coming

Brown has spent years trying to push the Eagles to the edge.

Hurts has kept Philly moving forward — and continued to play efficient football at a playoff level.

He’s also a world champion and a few plays away from a second trophy and Super Bowl MVP.

Something has to give within the Eagles as the tension builds and the surface cracks.

Philly fans will long for Hurts when he’s gone and wonder when they can again have a starting QB as professional, dedicated and driven as No. 1 once was.
